The thing is, mobs usually will not be able to get to you, and won't evade.

I've found multiple places in Marshes of Madness that are easily to get under the ground using nearly the same method described above. In my case I was using the tall trees with roots you can walk under. It works very well in MoM due to the water that is directly below you at (nearly) all areas in the beginning and to a lesser extent to the eastern side of the zone.
