    Which language for bot?

    Greetings!

For a few years now I've worked the graveyard shift, where I've done nothing all night long but watched shows, browse the internet and play WoW. I've finally come to the conclusion that I should do something constructive with my time. I've already taken to learning php, and how to design / make web pages, which has been interesting and fun.

I do however have 8 solid hours every night to kill. I've always wanted to learn a programming language, but I've never really had a clear task or goal in mind as something to actually learn a language for.

So, I figured I'd work towards making my own bot for WoW, starting from the ground up. I can only assume this will take a lot of time but as I said... I have PLENTY of idle time to put into this.

That all said, what language would you all recommend? It doesn't have to be the easiest to learn; in fact, I'd prefer something that is as functional and extensible as possible...something where I can start off by building something really simple, but if I choose to do more, then the sky's the limit.

I'm leaning towards C# or C++, but figured I'd get input from those more knowledgeable than I.

If you want faster results, go with C#. It's (all this is ofc just my opinion ) easier to learn than C++, has an awesome GUI system (it just rocks in my opinion ) and is overall still powerful. Also you will find enough information to get started that are already in C# (Shynd's blog as an example).
If you have alot of free time and want a REALLY powerful language, go with C++.
I dont know if there are any limits in C++ (for Bot writing I mean-.-), but it's alot harder than C# or any other language I know (except ASM and C :P). I'd recommend you to first learn the basics of C# and the basics of programming itself and then start to learn C++. After you're fluent with C++ (which will take 'a little time' ) you can start learning the basics of Memory Editing/Reversing. Oh and learning the ASM basics could be useful too

If I go ahead and get familiar with C#, do you think it will cause any confusion when trying to learn C++, or are they similar enough that it should be relatively easy to adjust?

Should be easy, learning one will make it easier to learn the other.

Put it this way; I know Lua but I'm learning PhP. They are discreetly similar languages but also completely different - yet i'm having no trouble getting used to PhP.

I find that Once I started picking up languages like C# and some C++, It made things just way easier to code in languages such as LUA.

LUA, I literally picked up in 2 seconds flat because It was just way to easy to understand and from there it was just getting used to typing things a tiny different.
