    [Request/help] Making my site LIVE!

I have created a HTML document and made my website the way i want it to be.
Its been created in first Photoshop then off to Dreamweaver (CS4 both if u must know) And customized it with CSS and HTML coding.

My HTML document in web browser looks like this:
    http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/4/kekburlr9.jpg
(its not perfect nor exactly complete in text etc as u can see :P but editing that atm)

    So now i have:

    Website foler on my desktop
    In that folder is:

_css (folder with the CSS files)
pages (folder were the mainpage and subpages are located)
images (folder with all images needed for the site)

    Now my problem is...
Finding a webhoster were i can put up my site so it looks the same as in my html document.
Anybody know one were i can do this? Or even how to do is?
(id rather NOT pay for the site so adds are fine)
    +rep for helper ofc.

There are plenty of ad free webhosts out there for free but be hard on which you use since just choosing any random might not be good.

http://000webhost.com - Is a free and good one but relatively new so how long it will hold I don't know.

AWARDSPACE.COM - Have existed for a very long time but do not provide you with as much space and transfer as 000webhost does but is more reliable.

Basically any will work, just find any popular webhost since new started inpopular webhosts that offers unreal amount of space etc. will probably go down within the month.

So look for reliabillity of resources. Also preferably get a webhost with a serious name, in this case 000webhost is a good host but their name is just completely random to get more visitors. And others such as "4realhost" should be inducted into the "hall of wtf?-moments".

And one more thing you should consider to be aware off. The hosts with the best website design is often the worst host. They try to hide their problems with a cool design to get new users. So avoid webhosts that are completely based upon web 2.0 in their design because most of them usually buys their design so the funny part is that a lot of them got the same design and dissapears after a month or two.

I think you should go with Awardspace, simple and good. And if you need more in the future just get a new paid host or just upgrade your Awardspace account.

Strange, it used to be free. Webhero is also an option.

There are two main ways to put your website on the internet, either you use file manager online with your webhost when you login and upload the files as they were on your desktop and bam, visit the url and it should be working.

The other way is to upload via ftp, just use the ftp info the host provided you and use any ftp program, i.e. like FileZilla, SmartFTP and others. In there you write in the ftp server, your username and password and connect and put your files there and visit the url and it should be working.

Is it that what you mean?

WTF? All were free when I last looked.

    Check these out then:
    http://www.atspace.com/index.html

I'm going to kill them if they stop offering free hosting after I've said this but before you saw this.

    http://000webhost.com/ works now again btw.

    1. register a domain name ( average cost is 10$)

    2. get your host to add your domain name to its server (its much faster to register the domain at your actual host). You can do this yourself in your user control panel/ manage domains ( if the site lets you have a control panel, most sites use cpanel).

    3. grab and ftp client like filezilla ( its free) FileZilla - The free FTP solution

    4. get your host ftp info and ftp to your site

    5. Upload your files into the root web or html folder and make sure you have an index.html and all the link point to the proper folders ( images/scripts/etc).

Note: you will not find a free site that allows user domains and ftp access that is not ad supported.

ps. You can find a good web host for 5$ a month with tons of options including ssl, shell access, lots storage, sql, etc. Also if you just want a simple site why don't you just use a free blog site like blogger.

Heres 3 page list that review free web hosts though personally I only use commercial hosts. http://www.thefreesite.com/Free_Web_Space/

You don't need to buy a domain, a subdomain works fine.
