Is there any easy fix to force this guys work to create images in small sizes. The originals are ~10-20kb and end up being 100kb or is it normal and unavoidable for the GD library to increase file sizes ten fold?

i think it would be something you cant avoid well with php you should try use a java script may work alot better, il have a look in my book for you
