Perhaps a stupid question, but what is a "pool"?

how? if you find a goblin, you kill it dont you? why would you log it and kill it later?

From personal experience I've often heard and seen a goblin on the screen but was too involved in killing and sweeping an area to go after it. Goblins don't disappear on a timer unless you engage them. Thus you can know they're there, run past them, and come back for them later. It's nice to refind them when you're ready.
