Hey,

I was a bit upset about the nethertentacle/increased attackspeed nerf yesterday & i did not enjoy my "new" demonhunter.
I was even trying to sell my gear for some RMAH Money, but noone bought it :>
After i received my gear back from the RMAH, i played around with the skills/equipment to find a new dps good dps build.
And well, i found one

Your Gear:
The Build requires beside Crit also Critdamage. Here again => more = better. You should have atleast 25% critchance and 200% critdamage.
The fastest way to aquire atleast 200%critdamage is a xbow with socket (50% basis+50%passive+70%critdamage socket) and a neck.

The following Items can have Crit & Critdamage:
Crit:
Helm 6% // Bracers 5.5% // Neck 8.5% // Gloves 10% // Ring 4.5% (9%) // Quiver 8.5% = 47.5% + 5% basic = 52.5% Critcap
Critdamage:
Neck 65% // Ring 34% (68%) // Gloves 50% = 183% + 50% basic = 223% without weapon
With 2x 1hand weapon: 100% crit + 100%crit socket*2= 400% = 623%
With 2hand xbow: 100% crit + 100%critsocket + passive = 250% = 473%
Since you wont find weapons with 100% crit+socket, just get an xbow with good dps (1k +) and socket.

The Skills: Im gonna post my Skillsetup & i'll explain it.
Additional Info: Im using E (3) instead of Leftclick. So, if you use the default option, just switch E (3) with Leftclick.

You can pick everything you want here. I use Marked for Death with Mortal Enemy

Rightclick: Cluster Arrow with Loaded for Bear.
This will be your Maindamage spell.
<You can choose between Loaded for Bear or Cluster Bombs>

Q (aka 1): Smoke Screen with Lingering Fog.
Vanish with increased Duration. You need always Vanish.

W (aka 2): Preparation with Punishment.
Blow up all your Disziplin for more Hatred.
<You can also switch to Focus Mind if that is to much glasscannon for you>
<You can also switch for Backup Plan>

E (aka 3): Hungering Arrow with Spray on Teeth.
With much crit, you can crit every second attack. You even can pierce through & crit again. And again. And again. And again.
Insane Damage in that skill with enough crit.

R (aka 4): Bat Companion
Nothing much to explain here.
<You can also switch that skill to for example Root Caltrops>

Passive1: Nightstalker
Everytime you crit you get the chance to regain disziplin. If you picked Preparation with Focus Mind, you can use vanish for good 60seconds.
With that Build and 4er Natalya's you should have Infinity Disziplin (but i cant test that).

Passive2: Archery
50% Critdamage extra for xbow's.
<You can also switch with Steady Aim, im not sure with passive is better>

Passive3: Sharpshooter
You get more Crit. Cant be bad with that Build.
If you picked Preparation with Punishment and have the ssbuff up (100% crit), you can do some insane damage.
I do (with 100k dps (ss buff stacked)) 1mio damage in about 2,5seconds.
<Also switchable with Steady Aim if you have enough crit>

My Stats:
Critchance: 34,5%
Critdamage: 277%
Dps without ss: 50k
Dps with ss: 95k

My "Achievements" with that build:
Act1:
Watcher in 1second (two-shot)
Almost every golden mob in act1 within 5-10seconds
Almost every blue group in act1 within 2-10seconds
Butcher in 10seconds

Act2: Did not try yet

Act3: Elite groups go way faster than with nether tentacle build.
I need a bit more defensive build for act3,
so im using Preparation with Focus Mind instead of Preparation with Punishment &
Root Caltrops instead of Bat Companion. The rest is the same.

Thanks for sharing, figured I'd point a few things out though.

The more crit you have, the worse ShSh is. Most people drop it after ~30-40% crit.

Steady Aim is better than ShSh and Nightstalker.

If you were to drop a skill for caltrops you'd probably be better off dropping MfD not Bat.

Backup Plan is better than both of those Prep runes (focused mind is really bad at 60 and you shouldn't be that hatred starved with both MfD and Bat to need punishment.


+2 for including Spray of Teeth, a very underrated rune.

I approve. Just switched nether tentacles for cluster arrows and although it costs more, i prefer it.

Thank you for this post. As I got my WD to 60 I definitely wanted to start a DH and was getting attack speed gear. But now you just saved me a ton of gold that I would of wasted. Thank you

Not that it matters much but bracers can have up to 6% because I've got some =)

As for the post and the build guide, thanks man! I managed to sell most of my attack speed gear the night before the patch (moment of silence for the poor souls who bought all of my gear at full price), and picked up a few crit chance/crit damage pieces but it's a bit more difficult to grasp my mind around it because balancing dex/crit chance/crit dmg is hard when I'm in the AH and can't see if an item will make my damage go up and down. And by the time you use a calc to check if it was a good deal it's gone.

Now that I can see the max chance and damage for all items I think I will just start spending 3-5mil and get the best crit chance/damage/dex I can for one piece, then save up and do it again til I'm decked out and geared to the teeth! =) I also was unaware spray of teeth was useful and am going to try it out tonight when I'm doing NV runs and see how I like it. Personally, although it may not be the best I prefer stun caltrops, prep with heal, extended duration smoke screen, and vault with lower Discipline on 2ndary vaults. I know it's discipline intensive but I like to be mobile and with a quiver that gives me like 8 or 9 bonus discipline I haven't had too many problems running out. I use evasive fire with covering fire (cone of damage) to build hatred and again, stay super mobile and I was using either impale or frost elemental arrow but I really didn't like either that much. I have never really messed around with cluster arrow but I am willing to give it a shot.

Again, thanks for a well written and detailed guide, I usually get set in my ways so it's nice to find a thread that makes me second guess what I'm using and try new things, that's actually how I found my love for evasive fire in the first place.

Also, I'd advise you to use caltrops with bait the trap for an extra 10% crit chance while standing in the traps.

Although my build is not similar to yours I'm at 70k DPS without SS and a 54.5% crit chance with caltrops - bait the trap. I do a LOT of damage. and the caltrops really help a LOT. I'm actually 2x stronger than my old ias build although attack speed suffers a lot, but it has since the patch anyways.

Man I was doing crit builds before they were cool. IAS was over rated and crit gear was so cheap at the time. Was hitting 100K damage by level 55 and literally one shotting Hell groups with 4 players.
