Let's imagine your were selling an amulet with no buyout. Your item was worth around 500m in total but had a bid for only 200m.Please note: This is the opposite of an exploit described in this thread: http://www.ownedcore.com/forums/diab...ough-gold.html (Win all bid items on AH, if you got enough gold.).
We are making profit out of people who try to win auctions by bidding large amounts of gold. If you are uncomfortable of benefiting
from other fellows who think they can outsmart the AH, this might not be the exploit for you.
Then came the rich guy, who really wanted the amulet for a good price, he decided to secure his bid by bidding 1b on it.
Now what was intended to happen, is that the even though there could have been one or two more bidders raising the price up to
400m, this rich guy would've still gotten the item and 1b-400m = 600m in refund. This is the way Diablo AH works at the
moment: No one gets to see the maximum bid and they have to invest the amount they are willing to pay for an item instead.
But instead of getting a refund, the rich guy got nothing else than the amulet. He was confused: why would anyone have bid
just a little under 1b on an item worth max 500m? There's no way someone could have raised the price intentionally - the risks
of going over the secured bid are too obvious, or are they?
Item bid prices visible on the Auction House are determined not by the max bid, but the second highest, meaning that if you do
bid 1b on a 200m item, it will still show as 200m (to a certain point, we will get to that). The price visible also applies to how much
the max bidder will be forced to pay for the item when the auction finishes.
Let's go back to the point when the maximum bid showed as 300m. At this point, with some knowledge, you realize there is a high
chance the current bid is not the highest. This is the first and only requirement for this exploit to work, you need to be certain
the bid shown is not the highest one. Then contact a friend of yours (or log in to another account) and make sure the following
instructions are followed (from 6:13 to 13:17)

With this exploit, instead of getting 400m for your amulet, you would've gotten just a little under 1b. Insane!
