    Guild Wars 2 launch date announced - August 28th!

    Get your gaming mouse, keyboard, and headset ready as Guildwars 2 is set to launch on August 28th of this year! Players will have the opportunity to delve into the fantasy land of Tyria, where epic adventures and mysteries await! Here's a peek at some of the news, along with some epic game play videos!
    After years of anticipation, massively multiplayer online gaming fans will soon get what they've been waiting for: "Guild Wars 2."

    The role-playing game from NCSoft and ArenaNet officially launches on August 28, Mike O’Brien, the game's executive producer, announced via his blog Thursday.

    "These are exciting times," he wrote. "We’re on the cusp of a new era in online role-playing games."

    Anticipation for the game -- which takes place in the fantasy world of Tyria -- is extremely high. Twitter lit up with news of the launch when it hit Thursday morning with Guild Wars 2 and #GW2iscoming among the top trending topics (right after #Obamacare and #SCOTUS)

    Developers have been working on "Guild Wars 2" since 2007. O'Brien says they set out to make it "a living breathing online world that challenges convention, that’s designed for fun instead of grind, and that brings social interaction to a new level in an online world."

    You can check out the "Guild Wars 2" manifesto here. Meanwhile, to celebrate the launch date reveal, ArenaNet released a new trailer for the game. Check it out below:


    "Now that we’re just two months away from launch, we’ll spend our remaining time optimizing, polishing, and balancing the game, to ensure that we provide you with the best launch-day experience we possibly can," O'Brien wrote, also revealing that a final Beta Weekend Event is planned for July 20 to 22.

    For me, this is simply amazing! I've been looking for something to do in my spare time other than WoW and Diablo III, and GW2 seems like a really cool alternative!

    France threatens Blizzard with legal action

    We previously heard about some Internet Cafe owners in Korea threatening Blizzard with Class Action Lawsuits, but it's no longer just limited to Korea. The UFC Que Choisir, a "very serious organization" in France, is now also putting legal pressure on Blizzard. Blizzard is required to have a "permanent solution within 15 days, and to communicate completely and transparently about problems encountered in due time." It sounds like people are starting to get very serious about the path that Blizzard is taking with the RMAH, and Diablo III, and who knows, there could potentially be lawsuits filed in the United States in time. The below quote is a brief version of the article translated in English. Only time will tell what will happen, but Blizzard might be in hot water soon if they don't fix up Diablo III.


    In France, the very serious “UFC Que Choisir” organization (focused on protecting consumers of all kinds of products) has received over 1500 complaints in 4 days from gamers about connect-ability issues and has asked Blizzard to have a permanent solution within 15 days and to communicate completely and transparently about problems encountered in due time.

    They are also requesting that affected gamers be given damages for troubles they may have had, and, in a much broader but more official manner, are asking the DGCCRF to have a close look at online-only DRMed games and how they work, including economically. They basically feel that it’s wrong to assume that an entire nation (well, at least France) has equal internet quality and reception across its entire territory and hence, online-only seems are harmful for some (many?) consumers (which is who they’re trying to protect).

    Vivdeni consdering selling Activision Blizzard

    Mega media conglomerates Vivendi SA are considering selling Call of Duty and World of Warcraft publishers Activision Blizzard, according to Bloomberg. A private discussion on the matter is due to take place on June 22, with Vivendi apparently considering selling all or part of their 61% stake in the company.

    The move is said to be part of a huge restructure for Vivendi, which also owns Universal Music Group and ran their own games publishing company until 2008. Although Activision Blizzard’s shares grew by 4.5% last year, Vivendi’s fell by a whopping 28%. With sales of $4.76 billion last year, Activision Blizzard is the world’s largest game publisher, but also only Vivendi’s fourth-biggest business.

    Although a knock-on effect from the sale is likely, we do still remember gamers quaking in their boots at the thought of Activision being owned by Vivendi back in 2008. That seemed to work out OK, though, especially with Blizzard being given about three millennia to work on StarCraft 2 and Diablo 3.

    So, what does this mean for us?
    Well, not much really. Vivendi is just Blizzard's "parent" company, meaning Blizzard basically does what Blizzard wants to do, except Vivendi supervises them. But, what could happen is if Vivendi sells all of it's stake, Activision and Blizzard could split apart.
    What does that mean for D3, and future games?
    Think about it. Right now, Activison Blizzard is concerned only with pleasing their shareholders (money). But, if they split from Activision, they just might go back to making quality games, and not concerning themselves 100% with $.
    We'll just have to wait and see though, get yourselves ready for the 22nd!
