    [FAQ] Model Editing Common Questions

Just this here FAQ I decided to make due to the fact that there seems to be a lot of problems with model editing now due to Blizzard trying to fight a war with us =]

Q: Why isn't my patch working
    A: Name it something like patch-*numbers 4-9 or a-z*

Q: My patch still won't work
A: Try putting .MPQ at the end of it, if that doesnt work for you check you have actually made the right thing and not swapped other files for the wrong ones. (Basically make sure its what you want)

Q: I used a Armor / Wepon changing guide using the itemcache.wdb but it isnt working, why not?
A: Make sure you follow the guide correctly and be sure you changed the right codes. If it doesnt work follow the guide from the first step AGAIN.

    Q: Model Edit Fix Plz???
A: Look on Glitchys ME Suite for the two links to it.

Q: Is model editing against Blizzards policies.
A: Technically yes but no at the same time. Your not allowed to do it but in a screenshot lurking around these forums its a GM talking to a player saying its ok aslong as you dont modify the land, just the way you look (as long as it does not interfeer with how you will get to inacessable things)

Q: Can it be detected if im using a model edit?
A: No! Well yes if you decide to use it for getting to places you should never be; example: GM Island.

Q: Why do we have to use ME Fixes
A: Theres an evil file located in the patches called the Signature file, and to say it shortly it only lets you load the patches downloaded straight from Blizzard, so the fixes basically and simply say to the evil file : lol let us in k thx

Q: What can you actually edit with model editing.
A: Everything if you know how to, and stick into learning it, or just test it yourself

Q: If my patches cant be deteced how can I still get banned
A: If your using those elite haxes so you can go underground in BG's and run all the way over to GM island, its going to be a bit obvious your using one, or your using a hack. Both have the same consiquences.

Q: How do I learn how to do it myself.
A: Search for guides in this part of the forum if you want to learn the basics. Most guides will say at the start "this is not for beginners" or something like that. Model editing isnt hard to learn, you just need to patience to learn it

Q: I cant think of any new model edits to release to the public.
A: Experiment! We dont need any more "Lazy Leechers". No matter how small your edit may be people may want it. Withing reason ofcourse; example: releasing a patch that will change the colour of the grass from green to light green <-- stuff like that gets flames.

Q: If the .wdb edits are not working for now how do you change your gear?
A: use patches, change the model of one item to another and make sure you swap the skins.

    Update: 21/5/08

Q: Where do I start to learn how to ME?
A: There was A_Snake01's model editing compendium around these forums which gave an amazing overview on model editing but either I cant find it or its moved / deleted. So basically now you will need to look @ all the guides one by one, or just use the easy method of Glitchys ME Suite <- Click For Thread

    Q: I have a question

A: Then leave me a PM or a Post on this thread *sigh*

Q: Can I make my own models?
A: Absolutely, but now your getting advanced. You will need knowledge in .m2 model making, or various other formats like .3ds but then you will need a converter which most ME Specialists will have. So i wouldnt recomend trying this unless you know how to do it, or you have a pretty long decent guide.

    Update 29/5/08

Q: I have no idea, and i mean really no idea where to begin
    A: http://www.mmowned.com/forums/model-...l-editing.html

    Update 06/6/08

    Q:
WoWME doesn't seem to working for me, why?
A: To make the patch work you need to first open up a file called * wowme * with notepad, im not entirely sure of what the type of file is due to my computer recognising it as a microsoft database but there is only one, the actual program * WoWME * and a aplication extenction called * WoWMe * and then theres another file called * wowme * open that one with notepad and go to the bottom of the text, make a new line and put in the exact name of the patch youve made. Just run WoWME now and hit F8 when you hit the logon screen and that should be you.

    Update 08/06/08

Q: WoWME R Gun Being Detected HALP PLZ MOAR CAPZ LOLOLOL11!1!11!!one!!1
A: Read DK's closed thread in the Model Editing Forums (Its Stickyed). Warden got a cheesy uber update but delete your scan.dll and you are still sexy Theres a few threads on this so look about.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Im sure there is way more things people would like awnsered, if so leave a comment and ill reply ASAP.

    -T.B.

P.s. A lot of this is common knowledge but people new to the site or just not into model editing can learn easier from here as most of the awnsers from other threads have been jumbled into this one. =]

A: Since patch 2.4.2 it isnt working for unknown reasons so far.
I've gotten itemcache hex edits to work just fine post-2.4.2.

Just make sure to select the last letter of the item (for instance "Gladiator's Greatsword" select the d in Greatsword) and then look at the corresponding number and go to the right for eight 0s (four sets of 00) then take that code (four digits. example: "C4 56" or any combination of letters/numbers) and replace it with the code (gotten in the same manner) of the item you want to have instead.

    Hiya

I'm pretty new to the whole model editing thing, but what I've done so far is change my druid's feral forms to that of Andridge (sp?)'s Druids of Azeroth, though that is pretty simple.

I've also changed my female tauren model to female Orc, and done a helm fix for fem tauren > fem orc, though what's happened, is the hair has no texture, and isn't being removed with a helm.

Here's a pic of the problem, hopefully it shows what I mean:

Can anybody suggest a fix for this?

even completely removing any hair would be fine, that way it wouldn't poke through because there'd be none there :P

    Thanks a lot in advance

    Kibeth

EDIT: I'll try the hair style fix, see if i can't fix it by making her bald. Will edit again or delete post if it works.

I have a problem! So i've been using glitchy's new MES and created a race swap mpq with it and then i put this mpq in my wow/data folder and using kynox's new lightweight WoWMe3, i opened up wow did the F8 routine and nothing happened. " Why isn't my patch working
    A: Name it something like patch-*numbers 4-9 or a-z*

Q: My patch still won't work
A: Try putting .MPQ at the end of it, if that doesnt work for you check you have actually made the right thing and not swapped other files for the wrong ones. "(Basically make sure its what you want)
I've tried all this beforehand and none of it was worked for me :/, i hope theres still a solution to my problem!

additional information-I'm changing from BE male to undead male
-i've never been able to get this Race swap to work before
-Im still new to all of this
-i've tried over a billion dozen different mpq's, from ones i made and from ones i've gotten off this site
    -my favorite color is purple
-i lied about my favorite color
