[QUESTION] Model Skinning Produced Green Skin?

I posted a request a few days ago asking for a Blood Elf to "Dark Elf" skin change, but decided to go ahead and try to do it myself in the meantime.

I followed Lex's Reskinning Guide, and I was able to successfully reskin a tauren bear form (as a test), but when I tried to reskin my BE, all I got was a normal face and a solid green body.

Here is the image of the .BLP file I changed
    http ://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b234/sollinton/BEScreenie.png

After some thought into this I decided that maybe I had to change the other .BLP files associated with the Blood Elf, such as a specific face, torso, etc., but I wanted to know the specifics before I started randomly changing things.

Please note; if there is a guide concerning this topic, I am sorry but I have not found it. I have only found guides for changing creature skins, which are apparently simpler than character skins.

    Thank you in advance!

Alright, I've looked around the forums some more and discovered that apparently creating custom skin colors can be quite complicated.

However I would still like to try, does anyone know how I might go about doing this? Or at least a nudge in the right direction?

I am going to take a wild guess and say you converted the image into the wrong BLP format. Check the settings on your converter, make sure it's using the correct setings for character skins(256 colours, no alpha channel).

Changing an entire skin colour isn't hard - it's just tedious. You need to find all of the belf male textures for the colour you want to replace - upper and a lower face textures for each face in that colour, upper and lower torso textures, and one 'whole body' naked texture which you've done already. Skin colours are denoted by the last two digits in the texture filename. Recolour and replace all of those, check your converter for specific filetype settings and there you go.
    I don't do tutorials.

Thanks alot for the help! I have all the textures changed correctly now!

I realize this might sound kind of naggy, but would you happen to know of a BLP converter that could do this? The one I have is just a drag-and-drop with no settings, and I couldn't find anything else on the forums here (tried google searching too).

Thanks again! I really appreciate it.

I use a very good command-line converter which you can get on WoWDev. You'll need to read the included readme files to see how to use it and how to set the conversion settings, it's very simple.

Alright, I downloaded the converter and sort of figured out how it works.

The only thing I can't find though is how to change the alpha channels. I read that 0-bit alpha is for character skins and uses DXT1 compression, but looking at the options it gave me, I couldn't find anything that actually changed these values. I saw the -r value changes the format to 1-bit alpha, but nothing for 0-bit.

    Any suggestions?
