Extreme Mac-over: Model Editing Edition (WoW TBC Model Editing Fix for Mac)

The Mac is a wonderful machine when it comes to model editing or World of Warcraft hacking of any sort - no Warden, being able to extensively use Applescript, etc - and the only problem it seems that people find when it comes to model editing on a Mac is that there is no current made fix for it.

Why is that? Well, you don't need one.

Model editing differences between Macs and Windows PCs:
    • Macs require explicit file capitalization.
    • Macs read the same data from different locations. Due to this, some edits that rely on other files may not work.
On Windows, the typical model edit process goes a lot like this:
    1. Place patch-#.mpq in the C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Data folder
    2. Run ModelChange.exe from the WoW root folder
    3. Profit
From the look of it, WoW on a Mac should work exactly the same way, correct? Not necessarily. In recent patches, Blizzard has been cracking down and trying to patch model editing in Windows, gleefully and conveniently ignoring Macs. Model Editing works the way it did in patch 2.0.0 (the one before BC).

Here's how to use model editing on your Mac:
    1. Find the patch you want
    2. Place the patch in /Applications/World of Warcraft/Data/enUS/ folder
    3. Rename the patch to patch-enUS-#.MPQ with the same capitalization or it won't work.
    4. Open WoW, and log in

Things to note when your model edit comes into effect:
    1. You may get some lag for a second and an error message similar to this when what you changed comes into effect:

Don't worry. All you can do is press "cancel" and move on. It's totally harmless, just a bit annoying.
    2. Some instance swaps may not work. I can't confirm this not having used many myself, but I don't think that some of them work. Everything else should be fine.
    Happy editing, MMOwned.

Some of the model edits require the patch-#.MPQ in the Data folder too.

You'll have to experiment with them. Some just outright don't work with the Mac.

    What model edit is it?

Currently, no. I might, MIGHT start developing a program to do so in C++ or RealBASIC soon. Between work, my girlfriend, school, family, and whatever else, I don't know if I'll have time.

Thinking about time, time to catch some ZZZs. I'll be back to answer questions in a few hours.

Re: Extreme Mac-over: Model Editing Edition

I just experimented a bit with this and it works so well , although for the English EU version of WoW you would have to rename the patches "patch-enGB-#.MPQ" and not "patch-enUS-#.MPQ" , keeping in mind that # is a random number that you should add yourself (i recomend any number from 3 to 7) .

Oh , and by the way im making this thread a STICKY (mac users must know this) .
