Higher Learning Achievement using NPCSCAN

First, in case you don't know what it is, Higher Learning is an achievement you can get by reading 8 different rare spawn books in Dalaran. The Achievement grants you the Kirin Tor Familiar Pet, and The Schools of Arcane Magic - Mastery.



There are many guides on how to find these books, when they spawn, good routes, etc. Here is a good one from Warcraftpets.com.

However, I haven't been able to find any guides that show you how to find the books using the NPCSCAN addon. As you are probably aware, you can input custom npc's into NPCSCAN, so what I've done is compile a list of the ID's for the various books you need to find. Here is how you input custom NPC's into NPCSCAN:

A: After installing the addon (click here for help with that if you don't know how), in game type /npcscan to open the configuration window. This is what you will see:



B: Simply type in the NPC ID, give the book a name (I gave them all their real names, but it doesn’t matter if you do), select “Northrend” as the part of the world for NPCSCAN to search for the books, then hit the red “+” symbol (not the Okay Button). That will add the item to NPCSCAN.

C: Here are the 8 Books you need to add:

1. The Schools of Arcane Magic – Introduction NPC ID = 192708
2. The Schools of Arcane Magic – Conjuration NPC ID = 192710
3. The Schools of Arcane Magic – Enchantment NPC ID = 192713
4. The Schools of Arcane Magic – Necromancy NPC ID = 192866
5. The Schools of Arcane Magic –Abjuration NPC ID = 1927709
6. The Schools of Arcane Magic – Divination NPC ID = 192711
7. The Schools of Arcane Magic – Illusion NPC ID = 192865
8. The Schools of Arcane Magic – Transmutation NPC ID = 192867

Once you have added them, if you are in Dalaran and one of those books has spawned, NPCSCAN will sound an alarm and show a little window with the book that has spawned. Quickly tab out, go to WoWHead to see where that book spawns, run back and click on the book. When you have done all 8 you get the Achievement.

Also, if your NPCSCAN alarm goes off, and for some reason you did not get the book, make sure to clear your NPCSCAN cache so it will pick it up again the next time it spawns. You can find out how to clear the NPCSCAN cache here.

Can you add any objects to NPCscan? I did this without npcscan some time ago, would've been so much easier with it... Thanks for posting!
