[PvP] 71-74 Bracket Shaman Twinking, A guide

I’m writing up a Brief guide to making a 71-74 Twink Enhancement Shaman.

-Why a Shaman at this Bracket?

Answer: [Nifflevar Bearded Axe].
This, Ladies and Gents, is an iLvl 226 Axe (KT25/Ulduar 25), which is usable by a level 71 character.

And it’s Not Unique-Equipped. you can Dual wield them.
I'll let that sink in for a while.

-Why a Shaman and not a Warrior, Rogue or DK?

Simple. The Nifflevar Bearded Axes are 2.6 Swing speed. perfect speed for an enhancement shaman.
a Rogue would prefer a Fast offhand for Poison applications.
The Axes are agility weapons. Warriors and DKs are Strength weapon users; plus, warriors could Dual Wield the 2h pvp axes and have the same raw damage.

Therefore, a shaman gains the advantage for these axes.

(besides, there's 4 rogues, frost mages, ret paladins and DKs per game. the most Enh Shamans I have seen in a single game was 2. Myself and one alliance.)


-Step One: Acquiring the Axes
The Nifflevar Bearded Axe is a rare Archaeology dig, from Vyrkul digsites, in Northrend. this will require an Archy skill of above 375.
You might want to get the add-on Archy - Archaeology Assistant - Archaeology - World of Warcraft Add-ons - Curse And another good add-on that ties into Archy nicely is TomTom : Map, Coords, and Compasses : World of Warcraft Add-ons

the axes are a rare quality dig, keep in mind however that the lower level rare digs are easier to acquire than the level 85 rare items.

So, take your Archaeological digger out to northrend!

Getting the 2nd Axe is going to be an issue however.
Because you can only get one of each rare on a character, you are going to have to level Archaeology on a second character.


-Gear, Gems, Enchants:
After Studying Wowhead, This appears to be the best set of gear, plus Gems and Enchants, to use.

The ONLY enchant that will require any Type of rep grind is the head piece.
There's a little contention to which would be better.
Some take Arcanum of Ferocity which will require Revered with Cenarion Expedition

Others Take Arcanum of the Gladiator which will require Revered with The Shattered Sun Offensive


-Professions:
Engineering is Mandatory. (a quick note about engineering: you CAN get the Level 85 Tinkers, and use them as a level 71-74 Twink. however, you will only learn 1 tinker (3 as a Gnome). If you don't get the Tinker you WANT, you will have to decide between dealing with it, or Re-leveling engineering. for more information regarding this, see here.
Also, please take a look at This thread by dj_cRaZy00 (Easy Engineer skill points 200-425) to help ease and costs of leveling engineering.


Most Common Alternatives: Proposed best to worst.
JC: For Dragons Eyes 41+ Stats from your 3 gems.
BS: 2 Extra Sockets, +40 Stats from your 2 extra gems.
LW: Better Bracer Enchant, Wrath Leg Kit.
Alch: Your Eng Trinkets will have better use.

If you are SERIOUS about Twinking this bracket: you should level LW first and put the leg enchant on any pants you might want to use in the future. Then drop LW if you want and level any of the professions listed above.

Yeah, no. i have lurked around there for info regarding this, and haven't found much in the way of up to date, useful information there regarding this unfortunately.

and I'm generally good about accrediting sources for my work

research for this came from a few guildies of mine, and a couple posts on the official forums. the set was built by me after searching wowhead for lvl 70-74 gear with a restriction of Resilience > 1 and the Enhancement shaman stat weight.

I've already got my axes (took around a week and a half of casual archaeology to do, for me.)

the only thing i could see raping harder than this is a Rogue or Warrior with the Glaives+Thor'idal... and they'd generally stick to the 70 bracket, as there is no useful reason for them to ding into the next bracket.

Im currently still leveling my shaman, but as of now, i am not. i will be XP stopping at level 71 or 72. im leaning toward 72, while i will have a slightly worse stat conversion rate (example 31% resil, 21% crit, 12% hit at 71.... 29% resil, 20% crit, 11% hit at 72) i will have a better chance to not be full resisted by level 74 players as a 72.

Eh, this sounds fun, I will try it after I level two of my guys to 80-85 my archeology, by then I should have two. Will be fun to level in bgs while I have these +Rep 5!

Go full ap no resil and get a pocket healer. Stay 71, there arent that many 74s.

i have done it with both dk and shaman and please for the love of god pick dual weild frostdk they crit up to 13k with them i found it quite a mistake taking them on my shaman and leveling my dk

Just a quick update on my progress: I'm now level 65. I have both axes prepared. I'm NOW starting the Cenerion Expedition rep quests. I got to honoured by Dungeon.

For those looking to do this, I would suggest NOT getting your rep through dungeons.

instead, go farm Bogstrok Clackers and Bloodscale Slavedrivers for Unidentified Plant Parts for the Repeatable Quest, Identify Plant Parts (starts from Plants of Zangarmarsh)

this will allow you to gain more Uncatalogued Species from the Reward of the repeatable quest above, which you can turn in for extra rep. save them till you hit honoured however.

Once you hit honoured and turn in all your uncatalogued species, THEN start all the Cenerion Expedition quests.

And don't forget, The D.E.H.T.A Quests in Northrend ALSO give Cenerion Expedition rep!

As a note be sure to grab 4/5 brutal if you dont have a dedicated healer. The extra maelstrom procs for ghw will save your ass more than the extra ap will fromfull pve gear.

Also i still need the black naaru trinket and have been tryin for the pants from the first boss in sp for a while now. Somehow i have seen the pants on my ele/resto shaman 3 times but none for my enh. Totally sucks

the ring is not BOP and isn't JC only. find someone to craft it, go with the PVP Neck.

the JC neck has 4 AP and 29 Haste, but you lose out on 18 Resilience and 4 Crit.
not crafting that neck isn't going to be a game breaker.
its a small difference. if you cant craft it, or get the pattern.


Update on Progress: Level 69, Revered with Cenerion Expedition (yay for being done rep farming lul) now leveling exclusively dungeons for gear for BG. will start into BGs probably at 70 to get a feel for it, then XP cap at 72.

That is what you want to look like.
What you will learn from this bracket is this. Enhance is a total joke and its trash. If you stand there in PVE gear hoping to 1 shot that disc priest with 40% resil and a 18k absorb on them. GL BRO. You want 20-25% resil. Enhance is WOLF DEPENDENT.
My 71 Frost DK will eat you any day. My 74 BM will use 5 abilities around. Send Spirit Beast to charge and hit Bestial Wrath and the Intimidate while i hit Kill command and you will die in 4 seconds or less.
I am not gloating by the above. I am just warning you and explaining that enhance is trash.
Be 71 and get 35% resil. You won't kill anyone unless they die in 1 hit(9k hp). You die in 1 shatter.
Be 71 and get 25% resil. You won't kill anyone unless wolves are up. You die in 1 shatter or during the duration of 1 cheap shot.
Be 71 and get 10% resil or less. You will be like Grublin a few posts up. You still won't kill anyone with out wolves and you will die in 1 frost bolt followed by a ice lance while his healer is CCd.

Rethink what you are doing. Every melee class in the 70-74 bracket is trash besides Blood DK/Hemo Rogue/72 ret. Why is that? You will see once you are in a BG with my Gearing advice or not. GL. You'll need it as enhance.


edit* btw. if you DO go to 72. You're making yourself x2 more gimp then you already will be

FYI your Chardev is about 3 pieces different from the set I have in the OP, further showing you haven't read my OP.

Ty for the input, but unless your going to read what I've written, your post comes across as nothing but negativity and trolling.

(BTW I heard Purging that Disc priest is cool story & I'm smart enough most of the time to not be caught trying to solo people down, because BGs and PvP as a whole are TEAM environments, where staying with the other people works wonders to increase your survivability.


Brief update: as Wesker9 said, things hit hard at the momment, lol

Rogues, DKs and a Boomkin (wth?) all did a serious number on me this evening. however, im now 3 pieces of gear up, working on my macros and keybinds and genrally having a good time, even though im still half a level out from the Niff axes. Oh, found an Xmog for the Axes....... Shatterstone Pick lololool

Also cant decide between the Heirloom Trinket (more resil, longer CD) or the shorter CD but less resil Blue 70 Trinket. Blizzard apparantly decided that noone needs the epic 70 trinket anymore, and removed it from game. >.<
