Mount Guide
I have written this guide to help those people who want to get the Leading the Cavalry achievement and how much it’ll cost them. I already have all the mounts myself and I’m just waiting for the patch. I’ll break it down for each race to see how much it’ll cost for each.
Alliance
Home Factions. You have to be exalted (with the exclusion of your own races mounts) to get these mounts. Being exalted will also mean you get 20% discount so I will take that into consideration:
Horses All Races
4 x 60% 32g
3 x 100% 240g
Rams All Races
3 x 60% 24g
3 x 100% 240g
Mechanostriders Dwarves/Gnomes
4 x 60% 32g
3 x 100% 240g
Elekks All Races
3 x 60% 24g
3 x 100% 240g
Sabercats All Races
3 x 60% 24g
3 x 100% 240g
Alliance Flyers. There is no discount for being exalted with anyone for these mounts:
Gryphons All Races
3 x 60% 300g
4 x 280% 800g
PvP Mounts. The greatest thing about these mounts is that they will cost you no gold at all! However that doesn’t mean they are easy to obtain and once again gnomes and dwarves have an advantage here.
4 + 1 x 100% 120(150) x AB / 120(150) x AV / 120(150) x WSG
Stormpike Battle Charger
1 x 100% 50 x AV
Winterspring Frostsaber. You get this mount by get exalted with the Wintersaber Trainers. Quite difficult to get unless you like mind-numbing grinding.
1 x 100% 100g
Horde
Home Factions. You have to be exalted (with the exclusion of your own races mounts) to get these mounts. Being exalted will also mean you get 20% discount so I will take that into consideration:
Wolves All Races
3 x 60% 24g
3 x 100% 240g
Skeletal Horses All but Tauren
3 x 60% 24g
2 x 100% 160g
Kodos All Races
2 x 60% 16g
3 x 100% 240g
Raptors All but Tauren
3 x 60% 24g
3 x 100% 240g
Hawkstriders All but Tauren
4 x 60% 32g
3 x 100% 240g
Horde Flyers. There is no discount for being exalted with anyone for these mounts
Windriders All Races
3 x 60% 300g
4 x 280% 800g
PvP Mounts. The greatest thing about these mounts is that they will cost you no gold at all! However that doesn’t mean they are easy to obtain and once again taurens are at a disadvantage here.
5 - 2 x 100% 150(90) x AB / 150(90) x AV / 150(90) x WSG
Frostwolf Howler
1 x 100% 50 x AV
Extras
So far the alliance have 46 mounts and the horde have 42 Which is almost there are already. However unless you are a dwarf or a gnome you only have 40 and if you’re a tauren you have a measly 22. This isn’t quite at the magical 50 number and this isn’t necessarily the cheapest way to do it. Lets look at other mounts we can get.
Talbuks. These ground mounts are gotten by achieving exalted with the
Kurenai/
Mag'har. They are cheaper than most alternatives after the home factions and are worth a look. They come in 3 different types.
Riding Talbuks
4 x 100% 240g
War Talbuks
4 x 100% 400g
Dark Talbuks
2 x 100% Halaa Battle Token x170 + Halaa Research Token x35
Nether Rays. These mounts are obtained by getting exalted with Sha’tari Skyguard, these will take some effort to get as there are only a few daily quests with them but you can grind the reputation with them however.
5 x 280% 1000g
Netherwing Drakes. These mounts are obtained by reaching exalted with the Netherwing faction. You get one for free when you reach exalted and you can return back to netherwing ledge and buy the remaining 5.
6 x 280% 1000g (free one included)
Cenarion War Hippogryph. This mount is obtained by reaching exalted with the Cenarion Expedition and is not really ideal as it has an outrageous cost.
1 x 280% 2000g
Rare Mounts. These mounts are incredibly hard to get and should not really be counted into your personal list unless you already have them.
Amani War Bear Complete the timed Event in Zul’aman (removed in 3.0.2)
Deathcharger Dropped by Baron Rivendare (incredibly low droprate)
Firey Warhorse Dropped by Attumen the Huntsman (Karazhan)
Pheonix Dropped by Kael’thas Sunstrider (The Eye)
White Hawkstrider Dropped by Kael’thas Sunstrider (Magister’s Terrace)
Raven Lord Dropped by Anzu (Heroic Sethekk Halls)
Razzashi Raptor Dropped by Bloodlord Mandokir (Zul’Gurub)
Zulian Tiger Dropped by High Priest Thekal (Zul’Gurub)
Brewfest Kodo Dropped by Coren Direbrew (Brewfest)
Brewfest Ram Dropped by Coren Direbrew (Brewfest)
TCG Mounts. These are practically impossible to get these days but they are gotten via redemption of special trading card game codes.
Riding Turtle
Spectral Tiger
Nether-Rocket
