    Chezzik's 1-375 Tailoring guide

This was first published as Chezzik's 1-250 Fast Track Tailoring
guide, and was designed to show how to get to 250 as fast as
possible, for the purpose of transmuting mooncloth. It has
now been expanded to 300, and I've started outlining the procedure
    to 375.

    Purpose:
It is well known that crafting professions are generally a waste,
until you have reached the artisan level. So, generally, it is
recommended that a new character should hold two gathering professions,
until they reach level 35. Anything you could craft before this
point is cheaper to simuly buy on the AH, and your sub-35 character
is missing out on valuable skins/herbs/ores during this time. It
is generally accepted that a player's first crafting professions
should be picked up at level 35 (some say 40). At this time, the
player will generally want to power-level the new profession as
quickly as possible, to minimize the time between his old and new
profession. That is the purpose of a fast-track guide.

The professions of tailor (and alchemist) are probably the most
important to document how to power-level. A stale character that
is not played much anymore can be used to generate mooncloth, or
do arcanite transmutes after the character has reached level 35.
These operations generate 2 gold a day (or more), and require
    virtually zero playing time.

In the week before my first draft of this document, I powerleveled
1-250 tailoring twice in 3 days (once alliance, and once horde),
I tried to keep careful notes, but there are still a few holes,
that I hope I can fill over time. 250 is an important milestone,
because that is the point where a tailor can turn felcloth into
mooncloth (always a guaranteed generator of money). 300 is another
milestone, since it allows you to make several BoP items. 350
is the max, and is required for transmuting Shadowcloth, Spellcloth,
    and Primal Mooncloth

    Important Concepts:
Anyone reading this guide should understand these points before they
    choose to undertake this procedure:
    • Crafting non-rare (white) items will always be a loss of money.
Since they cannot be disenchanted, there is no demand for these
items, so it is best to sell them to an NPC.
    • Disenchanting can be done with any character who has reached
level 5. I am assuming that the reader will have an alt (level 5
or higher) who stays in IF or Origrimmar to disenchant items produced
      through this process.
    • The listing fee for selling dust, essences, and shards (produced from
disenchanting) on the AH is 0. Therefore, you can relist such items
indefinately, and the only price you will pay is the 5% tax on the
final winning bid. This does not apply to armor, so generally all
green armor should be disenchanted before selling on the AH.
    • Creating bolts of a particular resource should be done as soon
as the required level is reached. For example, the "silk phase"
should be disrupted temporarily to create mageweave bolts, and then
the "silk phase" should be resumed. This is because the mageweave
bolts have to be created at some time, so you should do it while
      it still generates skill-ups.
    • You can usually make considerable money from bags. Of course, this
depends on your server, since some servers have players who have
completely cornered this market. This also depends on bank space,
since you won't be able to sell all the bags you make the first day.
This guide does not encorporate bags, but fell free to mix them in.

    Goals of this document:
    • To provide a procedure to reach level 250 only hours after
picking up tailoring. All items from the AH, or limited quantity
vendor items should be acquirable before picking up tailoring.
    • Overall cost is minimized. This doesn't mean the cheapest
possible item is made, but the mats cost minus the value of the
      final item should be minimized.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Preparation:
The following steps can be preformed before dropping your previous profession:
    • Reach level 35 (requirement for artisan tailoring)
    • Acquire the following resources from the AH, or from friends:
      • 116 Linen Cloth (5.8 stacks) (about 1.20 gold to buy from AH)
      • 162 Wool Cloth (8.1 stacks) (about 12 gold to buy from AH)
      • 508 Silk Cloth (25.4 stacks) (about 15 gold to buy from AH)
      • 575 Mageweave Cloth (28.75 stack) (about 30 gold to buy from AH)
Since this guide uses yellow items to level in a few places, there
is a small chance that one of the items you make may not give a
skillup. I've followed this procedure 2.5 times, and never had any
problems, but it doesn't hurt to buy a little extra cloth, just
      in case.

The prices of cloth varies greatly between servers. On some servers, it
costs 1.8g for one stack of wool. Others, only 60 silver. By the
estimations above, expect to spend 60 gold on the cloth.
    • Get Pattern: Dark Silk Shirt from vendor in Darkshire/Tarren Mill
      (11s). Vendor carries only 1.

The vendor is found outside, by the fountain in Tarren Mill. In
Darkshire, the vendor is upstairs in the building across from the
      inn.
    • Get Pattern: Azure Silk Cloak from vendor in
      Thalanaar/Hammerfall (11s). Vendor carries only 1.

In Hammerfall, the vendor is in the large rectangular building near
the entrance. It's the same building that the first aid artisan
quest is in. For Thalanaar, the vendor is standing in a lighted
gazebo, a little north of the rest of the camp.
    • Optional: Get Pattern: White Bandit Mask as a drop or
from the AH. If you can find it on the AH for a couple gold, it's
      probably worth it.
You'll save 10 mageweave bolts by using it instead of black mageweave
      leggings between 215 to 225.
    • Get Pattern: Mooncloth from Winterspring (2g). Vendor
      carries unlimited quantity.

Since the mooncloth pattern is available in unlimited quantity, it
can usually be found cheaply at the AH. If you choose to go to
Winterspring, you can pick up a dozen, and sell them on the AH
later. Traveling to winterspring requires running past some level
51-53 furbolgs, in the tunnel from Felwood. I recommend not killing
these creatures, since it will greatly increase the difficulty of
gaining Timbermaw reputation (see 250-300 guide). Instead, have a
friend summon you, or use an insivibility potion or stealth form.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Walkthrough
If the item is brown when you make it, you will always generate a
skillup. Yellow makes no promises. Sometimes, on an item that
was yellow, I had to make 3 items just to get one skillup. Green
rarely makes a skillup. Grey never produces a skillup. For most
items, you should only use it when it is brown. A few items have
a large yellow region, so you can make a few after it has turned
    yellow without risk.

The 4 numbers separated by slashes indicate when this item turns
    brown/yellow/green/gray.
    • Example Item:
    • Takes you from level x to level y: SKILLUP brown / yellow / green / gray

all the major cities. Level 5 is required for this skill.

*Note 1 : Let 'x' equal your current skill level, and 'y'
equal the number of linen cloth bolts that you have made.

Once ( x + y ) >= 100, you can stop. You will have enough bolts to finish this stage.

*Note 2 : Linen Belts can be used instead of Brown Linen
vests. They are worth 9 copper less, but it seems silly making
just 2 vests when belts would work just fine.

    WOOL CRAFTING PHASE (75-125)

Pick up Journeyman Tailoring from a Expert Tailor. These are found
in all the major cities. Level 10 is required for this skill.

The total cost for the vendor materials used for clothing in this phase: 74.00 s

equal the number of woolen cloth bolts that you have made.

Once ( 2x + y ) >= 260, you can stop. You will have enough bolts to finish this stage.

*Note 2 : Gray Woolen shirts turn yellow at 110, but I've found
that the next 5 will always give a skillup too.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

    SILK CRAFTING PHASE (125-175)

Pick up Expert Tailoring from an Artisan Tailor to pass 150. These
trainers are found in Stormwind and Undercity. Level 20 is required
    for this skill.

Unlike linen and wool, you can make bolts until they go gray,
without wasting any. In fact, for this stage, and for Mageweave,
it is advisable to buy bolts instead of of cloth from the AH, if
    you can get it cheaper.

Some of the silk bolts made here will be used in this stage. The
rest will be made in the first part of phase 4.

The total cost for the vendor materials used for clothing in this phase: 4.1350 gold
The approximate cost of cloth used for clothing in this phase: 7.5000 gold
The total NPC value of all clothing produced in this phase: 2.7798 gold

    MAGEWEAVE CRAFTING PHASE (125-175)

Pick up Artisan Tailoring from an Master Tailor to pass 225. Level
35 is required for this skill, and you must be level 200 before
    you can pick it up.

Master Tailor Daryl Stack is found in the church, at Tarren Mill.

Master Tailor Timothy Worthington is found in Theramore. To find
him, walk into the city portion from the pier. Turn left when the
road forks. The first building on your left is his, and he's on
the second floor. There is a tailoring vendor downstairs in the
building, but he doesn't have blue dye, so bring what you need with
you, if you haven't finished Azure Silk cloaks.

Just like silk, you can make bolts until they go gray, without
wasting any. Once again buy bolts instead of of cloth from the
AH, if you can get it cheaper. It will take 75 mageweave cloth to
get the full skillups in making bolts. So, if your mageweave is
stored in your mailbox, you may want to get out only 4 stacks to
level on bolts. Then, finish your silk crafting, and then make
    the rest of your bolts.

Azure silk cloaks should be made after creating your mageweave
bolts. I believe you can continue to get regular skillups well
into the yellow region, but I'd like to see someone respond to this
post to confirm. If not, you can fall back on Crimson silk vests,
but they take more silk, and cannot be disenchanted.

The items in this stage should be disenchanted. See the disenchanting
section at the bottom for more information.

The total cost for the vendor materials used for clothing in this phase: 13.6500 gold
The approximate cost of cloth used for clothing in this phase: 37.0000 gold
The approximate value of the clothing made in this phase (after disenchanting): about 55.0000 gold

    • 175-185: SKILLUP 175 / 180 / 182 / 185
Bolt of Mageweave Cloth, qty: 115 (only 15 are needed to get skill up to 185. The rest may be done later.)

    Disenchanting

The following chart shows what will be produced from disenchanted
tailoring products from stage 4 of the walkthrough. The
chart is based on level required to wear the particular item:

    Soul Dust 21-30
    Vision Dust 31-40
    Dream Dust 41-50
    Illusion Dust 51-60
    Lesser Mystic Essence 25-30
    Lesser Nether Essence 36-40
    Greater Nether Essence 41-45
    Lesser Eternal Essence 46-50
    Greater Eternal Essence 51-60
    Small Glowing Shard 26-30
    Small Radiant Shard 36-40
    Large Radiant Shard 41-45
    Small Brilliant Shard 46-50
    Large Brilliant Shard 51-60

The disenchanted materials should be sold on the AH. On my alliance
character, this netted me 53.94 gold. On my horde character, I
sold the materials for 60.61 gold. Here's what was produced from
    my two experiences:

    23 to 37 soul dust
    56 to 79 vision dust
    17 to 18 dream dust
1 to 5 lesser mystic essences
17 to 18 lesser nether essences
1 small glowing shard (both times, I got exactly 1)
1 small radiant shards (both times)
2 large radiant shard (both times)

    Variations
If you get the white bandit mask pattern (drop), it can be used
from level 215 to 225. It will save you a lot of mageweave (10
bolts), and can be disenchanted, but it's a rather rare drop, and
it's possible you won't be able to find the recipe on the AH, or
the price of the pattern may be more than you want to pay.

Some players report grinding the whole distance making only green
items. Obviously, in the linen and wool stages, this will require
using far more raw materials then the guide that I have here, and may
require buying rarer ingredients (such as spider silk). I chose not
to make "soft-souled shoes" and the like, because it just wasn't worth
the effort to disenchant them for a few coppers.

Honestly, an unlimited amount of wealth could be made by creating these
low level greens, as long as you are able to continue to find buyers
on your soul dust. I tried this for a little while, but the time I spent
making the auctions for the dust and essences was just not worth the small
    amount of money per item.

    Conclusion
Congrats! You made it to 250!

Overall, you probably spent about 82 gold (60 on cloth, 19 for
vendor goods, and 3 for patterns and training)

Overall, you probably made 55 gold from disenchanting your green
items, and about 1.7 gold from selling your whites.

But now, you can convert 2 felcloth to 1 mooncloth for free. To do
so, find a moonwell. If you are alliance, go to the one in Darnassus.
The Darnassus moonwell is in the Temple of the Moon, straight south
    from the bank.

If you are horde, the easiest one to access is in Ashenvale, just
south-west of where the main path crosses the main river. This
conversion has a 4 day cooldown, otherwise it would be the ideal
    way to skillup to 300.

    Guide for Tailoring, 250-300

This guide is going to be a little more difficult to follow, since the recipes
are more difficult to find. You should start looking for the recipes early
on the AH, if you don't have them already.

    Reasons to reach 300 Tailoring
    • Completeness. It feels incomplete to stop before reaching 300.
    • Mooncloth bags and bottomless bags. Mooncloth bags sell better on
on the AH than mooncloth alone. Bottomless bags are only slightly
more functional, but they are considered a status symbol to some.
    • Robe of the Void, Robe of the Archmage, Truefaith Vestments.
These are bind on pick-up items, so you have to be a tailor if you want to
      wear one of them.
    • Timbermaw items. These require honored reputation with the
timbermaw to acquire the patterns, but sell very well once you have
      completed the reputation grinding.
    • Other blue items, usually felcloth gloves or mooncloth boots.
    • Needed step to reach 350 (duh!)

    Preperation:
The following steps should be followed before starting:
    • Train how to make runecloth bolts from the artisan trainer in
Tarren Mill/Theramore. This will take from 250-260.
    • OptionalGain "unfriendly" reputation with the timbermaw.
This will allow you to travel through the tunnel from Felwood to
Winterspring without being attacked. (I highly recommend doing this)
    • Purchase "Pattern:Mooncloth" from the vendor in Everlook, or off of
the AH. It is 2 gold from the vendor, and is usually reasonably priced
      on the AH too.
    • Buy pattern for Runecloth Gloves from Qia in Everlook. It's limited stock,
so if you can't find it there, you may look on the AH for it. If you still can't get,
Brightcloth Cloak can make a reasonable addition.
    • Buy about 72 rugged leather from the AH (for the runecloth gloves), or
about 36 gold bars (for the brightcloth cloak)

    Procedure:

The chepest procedure is to just purify 50 mooncloth. This will take
you from 250 to 300, since the recipe stays brown the whole time. But, it
will take 200 days to complete this, so it is not the best way for most of us.

250-260: Make 142 Bolts of runecloth. You'll need these later.
You will probably get the full number of skillups after making only 15.
    Ingredients: 852 runecloth

    260-282: Make 22 Runecloth Belts.
Ingredients: 66 bolts of runecloth, 22 rune thread. When I did this, the 23rd did not produce a skillup. The belt goes yellow at 270, and green at 285. If you stop getting skillups, before reaching 282, then move to the next step.

    282-283: Purify 1 mooncloth.
    Ingredients: 2 felcloth

283-300: Make 18 Runecloth gloves. These turn yellow at 290, but usually generate skillups through level 300. It's likely that one will fail, that's why I say 18 instead of 17.
Ingredients: 72 bolts of runecloth, 72 Rugged Leather, 18 rune thread. (assuming you get by with 18.)
If you can't get the pattern for runecloth gloves, use the brightcloth cloak instead.

    Reputation

Many of the best recipes for high level tailors are only available from
Meilosh, but only after having honored reputation with the timbermaw,
    thorium brotherhood, or other faction.

You can see your reputation numbers without using any add-ons. Just hover
over the bar with your mouse to see the current number of points that
you have. If you've never altered your reputation for a faction, it may
not show up in your reputation page yet. You can choose to show one reputation
bar above your xp bar. (click on that reputation, and check the checkbox)

The maximum values for each of the standings is as follows:

    Hated: 36000
    Hostile: 3000
    Unfriendly: 3000
    Neutral: 3000
    Friendly: 6000
    Honored: 12000
    Revered: 21000
    Exalted: 1000

You will start off with 2500/3000 reputation in the "hostile" category for
Timbermaw. I'm not sure where you start with the other factions. Gaining
just 500 more Timbermaw reputation will bring you up to "unfriendly". At that point, you'll be able to freely walk through the tunnel controlled by the
timbermaw that links Felwood to Winterspring to Moonglade. I recommend
    that each player does this.

Some of the recipes only require friendly reputation with a
particular faction, but most of the recipes worth getting require honored
or revered status. A few recipes may require exalted.

Previously, I had a lot of hints on how to increase your reputation
in this section, but I've now discovered that the wowwiki currently has more complete information. Please see it for specifics on any faction:

    Tailoring Guide, Introduction to 300-375

I haven't quite made it to 375 myself yet, so this part of the guide
    is not yet "release quality".

    Finding the grand master tailor
To continue past 300, you will need to find the grand master.
Horde players should speak to Dalinna (on the left side of the inn
in Thrallmar). Alliance players should seak out Hama someplace in
Honor Hold. The skill of master tailor requires level 50. If you
are not yet level 58, have a friend summon you, or by a portal.

Choosing one of the three specializations

As you probably know, you will want to choose between primal
mooncloth, shadowcloth, or Spellcloth sometime after reaching
    350. You can do this by speaking to one of the specialists in the
crafting area of Shattrath. The quest to specialize is only available
once you have reached 350. The choice may not be permanent.
Please see page 5 of this thread for more information.

    • Primal Mooncloth - These transmutes require a moonwell.
They can be found in Darnassus, Stormwind, Cenarion Post (Zangamarsh),
and many other places. This will probably be the most popular path,
since this transmute is needed for primal mooncloth bags. It is also
used for the "Whitemane Wisdom" set, the "Unyielding" set, and the
"Primal Mooncloth" set, targeted towards priests and other healers.
Transmuting this from an imbued bolt of netherweave requires one
primal water and one primal life.
    • Shadowcloth - These transmutes require an Alter of Shadows,
which is found in the SE corner of Shadowmoon Valley. It's guarded
by level 70 air elementals, but is reachable with an epic mount without
dying at level 64 (if you know where you are going!) Ride south between
the two mountain ranges, and then turn right just before falling off
      the continent.

This cloth is used for the 28-slot soul shard bag, and for the
"Shadow's Embrace" set, which is targeted towards warlocks.
Transmuting this from an imbued bolt of netherweave one primal
shadow and one primal mana. Completing this transmute gives
you a nice buff that lasts one hour!
    • Spellcloth - These transmutes require the user to be anywhere
in the Netherstorm region. Generally, low level characters should
cross over the bridge to do the transmute, or just die and do the
transmute from Area 52 graveyard. Upon completing transmute, a level
70 NPC will be summoned to fight you, so it is recommended to have
your pet out, and be ready for battle. This cloth is used for the 28-slot
enchanting bag, and for the "Wrath of Spellfire" set, targetd towards
mages. Transmuting this from an imbued bolt of netherweave
one primal fire and one primal mana.

Any tailor of level 350 can do any of the three transmutes listed
above, although if you specialize in one of the three disciplines,
then you will produce double cloth of that type with each transmute
(2 instead of 1). If you need a type of cloth that you have not
specialized for, it will probably be better to just buy it off the
AH. Each transmute has its own 4 day timer.

I have personally decided to specialize in primal mooncloth on
both my priest and warlock. I have been able to sell spellcloths
and shadowcloths on the AH for 70g, but I'm sure that price will
drop as people begin to specialize in them. Once that happens,
I'll only be doing primal mooncloth transmutes, but still expect to
make continuous profit from doing so.

    Choosing a faction in Shattrath
    • Two of quadrants of Shattrath (the large neutral city in Outlands)
are controlled by factions. These factions are in opposition to each other.
Choosing one will make the the opposing quadrant of the city unavailable
to you, so it is important to make this decision wisely. This decision
does have a (small) impact on your tailoring:
    • Aldor - this faction has Draenei NPCs, but is available to
horde and alliance. With this faction, you will have access to recipes
for Silver and Golden spellthread. They can be sewed into pants to
      permanentlny increase healing (and stamina).
    • Scryers - this faction has Blood Elf NPCs, but is available
to both horde and alliance. With this faction, you will have access
to recipes for Mystic and Runic Spellthread. They can be sewed into
pants to permanently increase spell damage (and stamina).
Tailoring is not the only reason to pick a particular path. Everyone
    should look through this comparison:
    http://wowwiki.com/Comparison_of_Ald...Scryer_rewards

It is possible to undue this decision, but it will take a lot of time
to get back the reputation with the faction you shunned. There are
specialized RRQs designed for undoing such a decision, but the
other RRQs normally used for increasing faction are only possible
    if you are already friendly.

    Tailoring Guide, Procedure 300-375

The main procedure I am choosing to list here will be simple, since it
does not contain bags, transmutes, or arcanoweave recipes, and it assumes
that you have all the cloth needed up front. I have listed some addendums
    at the end.
    • 300-325: SKILLUP 300 / 305 / 310 / 325
      Bolt of Netherweave, qty: 520
      (3120 Netherweave Cloth)

I'm not really sure how many of these are needed to reach 325. I think I
made about 60 bolts before they went grey. If you don't have enough cloth
to reach 325, but want to continue on, you can make netherweave bags or
netherweave belts to reach 325 (see addendum A).
    • 325-340: SKILLUP 325 / 330 / 335 / 340
Imbued Bolt of Netherweave, qty: 120
      (360 Netherweave Bolts) [ 2160 Netherweave Cloth ]
      (240 arcane dust)

Once it took me 30 imbued bolts to get the last skillup. Another time
it took me 35 imbued bolts to get the last skillup. So, if you just want
to get to 340, then you don't have to make all of these now.

At this point, you can jump to addendum B, and then make bags all the
way up to 350, or just go on:
    • 340-345: SKILLUP 340 / 350 / 365 / 360
      Netherweave Robe, qty: 5
      (40 Netherweave Bolts) [ 240 Netherweave Cloth ]
      (10 Rune Thread)
    • 345-350: SKILLUP 345 / 355 / 360 / 365
      Netherweave Tunic, qty: 5
      (40 Netherweave Bolts) [ 240 Netherweave Cloth ]
      (10 Rune Thread)

At 350, you can start making transmutes. If you aren't in a hurry I would
recommend doing these for a few days for skillups. They provide some good
cash on the side. These turn yellow when you get them (at 350), green at
355, and grey at 360. Once you've done a few, jump back in with tunics again:
    • 350-360: SKILLUP 345 / 355 / 360 / 365
      Netherweave Tunic, qty: 10
      (80 Netherweave Bolts) [ 480 Netherweave Cloth ]
      (20 Rune Thread)

At 360, you may want to start making arconeweave bracers and boots (if you're
lucky enough to have the BoP pattern). If so check out addendum C, otherwise
      plug on:
    • 360-375: SKILLUP 360 / 370 / 375? / 380
Imbued Netherweave Robes/Tunics, qty: about 17
      (102 Imbued Netherweave Bolts) [ 1836 Netherweave Cloth ] [204 arcane dust]
      (34 Netherweb Spider Silk)
      (17 Rune Thread)

    Addendum A:
    • 325-325: SKILLUP 310 / 320 / 325 / 330
      Netherweave Belt, qty: n
      (n*3 bolt of netherweave)
      (n*1 rune thread)
    • 325-325: SKILLUP 315 / 320 / 325 / 340
      Neatherweave Bag, qty: n
      (n*4 bolt of netherweave)
      (n*1 rune thread)

    Addendum B:
    • 340-340: SKILLUP 340 / 340 / 345 / 350
      Imbued Netherweave Bag, qty: n
      (n*4 Imbued Netherweave Bolts) [ n*72 Netherweave Cloth ] [n*8 arcane dust]
      (n*2 Netherweb Spider Silk)
      (n*1 Greater Planar Essences)

If those bags sell well on your server, and you aren't worried about having
enough silk, then you can use these to level all the way to 350. On my server,
however, they sell for substantially less than the cost of the ingredients.

    Addendum C:
    • 360-375: SKILLUP 360 / 370 / 375 / 380
      Arcanoweave Boots, qty: 17
      (136 Netherweave Bolts) [ 816 Netherweave Cloth ]
      (272 Arcane Dust)
      (34 Rune Thread)

Using addendum C instead of imbued netherweave robes/tunics will save you
390 netherweave and 34 netherweb spider silk. You will need more rune thread
and 342 arcane dust (instead of 204). All in all, you will save almost 300
gold (by the estimations used before), and you will have the 35 bolts of imbued
cloth (from the 340-350 step) left over, which can then be used bags, transmutes,
      or armor.

    Conclusion
Taking tailoring up to 340 is sufficient for 18 slot bags. 350 is sufficient
for transmutes. Only the most dedicated will make it to 375, which is the
amount needed for 20 slot bags. This should only be attepted if you know
that you will have the resources to complete it!
