I am aware that this is a repost.
*HOWEVER*
The other threads contained broken links, pictures, or the programs were out of date and do not work with Burning Crusade. (This guide may seem similar, but i use Hummingbird Socks (which works with BC) instead of Freecap, Sockscap, etc.)
Note that I have Vista. It works with XP too, and the configuration and installation is the same.
(I did it for my friends who have XP)
I mostly play World of Warcraft at school, and had to bypass the firewall to play. None of the old posts worked for me, so i experimented, and ended up with this. Enjoy
1. Go to Your Freedom, and create an account (ignore name/address, it is not needed)
Follow the instructions to activate your account. (Be sure to Remember the Account Name and Password, they are needed later)
2. Download: Your Freedom HERE.
Download Hummingbird Socks HERE.
Do NOT install Hummingbird Socks yet.
3. Installing Your Freedom: Double click the exe file. Make sure to check "Desktop Icon" when asked, as the actual program is hard to find.
Double Click the Icon and a Configuration window should pop up.
4. Configuring Your Freedom:
Keep hitting "next" (ignore the "Proxy Address:" window) until you get to this screen:
this step may take awhile (1-5 minutes) but eventually you will get a list of servers, like this:
Choose the server with the highest Pref (or at least above 9.5)
Open the other window and hit Save and Exit.
It will prompt you for your Username/Password, enter them and hit Save and Exit again.
Then hit Start Connection. You should see Bytes Sent and Bytes recieved go up, and may be prompted with a popup window. (If the bytes do not change, repeat this step and choose a different server.)
Minimize Your Freedom.
5. Configuring Hummingbird Socks:
Double click the install file.
Just keep hitting next, until a configuration window pops up.
Hit next twice, you should be at this screen:
Click Add
For Socks Server type: 127.0.0.1
For Port choose 1080
Hit Add
Hit OK
Hit Next
Check "Bind All Modules"
Hit Next
Hit Browse, locate the Your Freedom shortcut (on your desktop right?)
Open it, and HIT ADD (don't forget, I did once)
Then hit FINISH (Not Next)
6. How to use them:
First, you need to figure out how to turn Hummingbird Socks off (not as simple as you would think, but I made a batch file that does it)
You can either download the batch files here:
SocksOff
SocksOn
(Don't Open them)
or make them yourself:
Open Notepad
enter:
And File -> Save AsCode:@echo off rename socks.cfg1 socks.cfg
"SocksOn.bat" (Make sure the Save As Type is set to All Files)
Open Notepad again,
this time, enter:
Do a File -> Save As "SocksOff.bat" (once again make sure the Save As Type is set to All Files)Code:@echo off rename socks.cfg socks.cfg1
Take the .bat files (that you downloaded or made) and Cut them from where they are (Ctrl+X) and paste them in the correct Socks folder.
The Default location for the Socks folder is
C:\Windows\System32\Hummingbird\Connectivity\8.00\Socks
(Not the one in Program Files)
Once they are there, Right Click them and make shortcuts to both.
Copy the shortcuts to your desktop.
To turn Socks Off, Double click the SocksOff shortcut.
Then in your freedom hit "stop connection" and "exit".
To turn it back on, open Your Freedom, hit "Start Connection"
Then double click the SocksOn shortcut.
Then open up World of Warcraft and Play On
I usually have about a 300 Ping, which works fine for raiding.
This also works for other games (I tested CS: Source, and a couple others)
and for Internet Browsers.
Note: Try to open up the internet browser before you turn Socks on, or else it will make WoW laggy.
