Was fooling around a last week and found this using the Strange Dimensional Shard under the upcoming raid, ToS.

Isn't that the cave for the treasure chests?

I need to get that screenshot back, but I think the cave was here since the alpha.
It's still weird and unexplained yet though.

The reason for this cave, reason for smiley face under Karazhan, etc is that the devs used them as markers so they knew where to place the actual model for the ToS huge cathedral. Just as they used the smiley face painted on ground underneath Karazhan to know where to place the model for the tower.
