Get Earth Shield on a target without being resto (dual-spec)

So last week I decided to finally trick out my shaman's offspec and get her epic flying. Bought some resto pieces and dual spec.

So then last night I was in a VoA run with my guild, and I was the only shaman.
They asked me to heal Emalon as we were short of healers, and I did.
So I slap on Earth shield on the add tank and off we go. We kill Emalon and proceed to Archavon. In the process of clearing his trash I popped up another ES on the tank and went enhancement again.

Earth shield didn't drop from the tank.

Anyways, point is, if your a shaman with dual spec resto and your not needed as a healer for a specific fight, throw Earth Shield on somebody for some extra heals and you can switch over to another spec w/o the target losing ES.

1) Dual spec for Restoration (shaman)
2) Grab the Earth Shield Talent
3) Go raid, throw it on a target
4) Switch to another spec using dual spec
5) You now have a small amount of extra healing on one player.


I know it's really not much, but it can help on some progress fights if you do not have any resto shaman present.

I tried it on myself the other day and it went away, but if it stays on other targets I still dont know if it's worth it, 1 earthshield for the price of what, like 20k+ mana

idea is before the pull so mana isnt a big deal

I had a similar situation happen with my druid's dual spec. I was boomkin and specced into Master Shapeshifter. During an instance, I switched to feral and noticed how the Master Shapeshifter buff was still on me. It only went away when I shapeshifted out to normal tauren form and/or left the instance. It was nice to have that extra 4% crit chance when I wasn't technically specced into it on my feral side, though.

Kinda off main subject, but currently lvling a prot pally with RL friends resto shammy. We both bought our dual specs at around 45. This does definatly work, but as Avalaon said, I dont' see the point. Earth shield is nice.. but the few number of charges mixed with the limitation of the heals (equal to priests PoM or any fast cast heal like Flash Heal or Lesser Healing Wave) it's more of a bother to wait for the mana up than to get any benefit to this.

I agree this is an exploit because it's going against blizzards general goal. But only because they don't have identifying marks on buffs. They won't remove the buffs from whole group/raid when you respec because whose to say your not in a 40man raid with 8 other shaman and them getting rid of all Earth Shields just because you "might" have cast one of them? Until they impliment a system of identifying who does what buff, this is very likely to stay.

Can't really see why you'd be willing to slap on one earth shield at the cost of all your own mana. Cause that is was switching specs will do to you, bring mana down to zero.

Was just pointing out to people that you can, if asked to DPS a fight and you are restoration main specced, but have a DPS dual spec, get ES on somebody then DPS, but still have the 6 stacks of ES on somebody for that short time.

As in, you're resto, have dual spec for enh/elem, and you're asked to DPS. Put ES on target, go DPS.

Not much, but yeah- every little bit helps sometimes. It's up to you if you wish to use this.
