Has anyone ever made a patch server for WoW?

I've noticed that many people want their clients to be able to have custom items or sounds. If we had a patch server, it would be easy to have the client looking for new patches on said server. I'll poke around on google awhile, and if I do find anything, it will definately be shared on here.

The only thing I haven't figured out is how Blizzard has their client setup to check for patches. Putting "set patchlist youriphere" will probably have the client looking toward your ip for patches. (I changed mine to reflect my IP, and wow has not tried to download the new 3.1 patch since). Also, to make new patches, you would simply have to use an mpq editor and put things into an .mpq archive named patch-x.mpq. Placing that in the data folder of your wow client will introduce the new content into your game. Of course, new maps and display ID's will have to introduced into your database before it can be utilized in your server.
