Server requirements to setup up a decent wow emu server

Hi guys first i must say english is not my first language so excuse me for the bad grammar.

I have tha plans in the future to setup up a private wow server, and i was wondering what class of dedicated server i need to get something like 500-1000 usuers online with "decent lag".

Harwdare requirements and of course the most importante thing the connection bandwith.

is 100mbits ok? or need more?

And what will be aprox the cost of money?

    Thank you.

100 mbits is okey .. Just make sure that it is 100 mbit up , not down only.

Some server parts that i recomend :

    *Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz

    *2gb ram or higher

    *A good mainboard.

Something like that .. Depends on what price you want the server to cost ofc..

Thanks for the answers, just found the 2dgreengiant threat about it.

Beasty computer spec for say 1000+ players

Processor: 2ghz - 3ghz Quad core (AMD or INTEL)
    Ram: 5gb - 6bg ram
Hard Drive: 300gb (dosnt matter really)
Internet speed: 3000kbs up 2500kbs down

For example for 1000+ users online he recommend a server like that.

Internet speed: "3000kbs up" i need help there, how many "mbits" is "3000kbs"?

    1 megabits (mbits) ---> 1000 kilobits (kbs)

Is that right? i'm a little confuse.

    Thanks.

I think something is wrong here.

Because.. if 1mbits are equal of 1000kbits

    And taking this in mind:

    2dgreengiant says:

    ---------------------------------------------------------------
Beasty computer spec for say 1000+ players

Processor: 2ghz - 3ghz Quad core (AMD or INTEL)
    Ram: 5gb - 6bg ram
Hard Drive: 300gb (dosnt matter really)
Internet speed: 3000kbs up 2500kbs down
    --------------------------------------------------------------

    3000 kbps = 3mbits

    100mbits = 100.000 kbps

So with a connection of 100mbits i can holde more than 30.000 players? o.O

Obviously not hehe, but what i'm doing wrong in the math?

    Thank you.

Well, it would prob work, but then you must calculate all the others performance too

    100/3 = 33.333

    Ram : 4*33
    Processor: 3*33 GHz

The internet speed isn't all, thats why your calculation isn't 100% correct.

PS. This was just a bacis calculation to just prove that you must upgrade more, ofc not with the same ammout the internet was upgraded.

    1 byte is 8 bits.
    1 MB is 8 Mb.
    MB/ps * 8 = Mb/ps
    In other words, 100Mb/ps is 12.5 MB/ps (12,500 KB/ps)
