Reading a build string in OS X

Is there an easy way to do this? I'm trying to combine my WOTLK/CATA/MOP lua unlocker into one app but I can't figure out an easy way to find out what build number is running. I'd like to just have my LUA unlocker be able to tell if I'm running WOTLK/CATA/MoP32&64 and patch automatically.

    I appreciate the help

EDIT: to clarify, this doesn't need to be something scanned from WOW itself, if theres a config file that I'm overlooking that has this easily accessible then that would work too. It would actually be preferable to not have to memory read it from wow so that there's one less offset to read, especially because the offset would likely be different for every version.
