Undetectable keypresses

I heard that Windows flags key-press events coming from software in the system event queue and that's how games can tell if a key-press comes from hardware or software.
Is it correct? Is it possible to modify Windows system files so that that flag is not set? Will it make software and hardware key presses indistinguishable for games like WoW?

You should be completely fine if this is for WoW, they do not and in all likelihood will not ban for artificial keypresses or multiboxing would not exist.

Yes, it is possible for a game to determine if a key press originated from hardware or not based on a flag in the windows API.

Thank you for the replies, can anyone suggest where to start if I want to tweak that part of Win API? Or maybe it was done already and there a software I could use?
