What is ReName

Some of you may remember my older addon, StreamGuard. I stopped working on that for various reasons, and later picked it up again but didn't really release it publicly for more various reasons. Anyway, once again I don't really work on it much anymore since I don't do any activities that'd require it, so I'm going to once again put it here for everyone to use. It does have a lot of new features since the last time the general public had it, including many of the asked for features.

The addon allows you to hide the name of yourself, and any other player from the in-game UI (client side). It's a good way to hide or change your name when recording videos for YouTube or streaming to Twitch or similar sites, and you don't want people to know your character name, such as when piloting/boosting or recording exploit/exploration videos, using bots or you just want some plain ol' privacy.

I haven't really tested it much since Legion hit, so some of it may be broken. Let me know if it is.

Also, I'm not a programmer so the code is pretty awful, but it works.

How Does it Work?

It's a normal WoW addon. You put it into your interface folder like any other addon. Unlocked Lua is not required. From there, you select your fake character and guild name, and add any players you also want hidden and give them their names.

Because it is a normal addon that uses in-game Lua and nothing is, there is a 99.99% chance that you'll never get banned (just for this). At worst, if Blizzard doesn't like it they will just break functionality.

What Are The Limitations?

It doesn't hide everything. You can only access so much without memory editing. It doesn't hide the name above players heads (which you should just turn off). It doesn't hide it from chat bubbles (kinda, a bit broken atm)/nameplates (it did but it broke and I don't play enough to fix it, can also be turned off). I may have also missed other parts of the interface where it may show your actual character name. Let me know if I did and I will add it if I get time.

Only works on default UI. Don't really plan on supporting this or that addon, because there are so many types and I don't have the time to do it, nor do I personally use them.

So the "player name" would be for adding any characters I have.. & whatever I setup for the masked name would just work when I change characters ?

Thinking it was quick & dirty I tried to just use the little window on the left for longer than I'd care to admit like wtf this piece doesn't work.. haha

Little window for your character (name is saved acc-wide), large window for friends/party members/anyone else you want to hide too.
