How to Hack / Unbrick your PSP

OK before we start off there are a couple of things you need.

    Requirements
    - A Sony PSP (Old PHAT version or the new Slim Lites)
    - A PSP Battery (which you are willing to take apart)
    - A Memory stick duo pro, 512mb at least and 4gig at most (MUST BE PRO)
    - A USB Cable
*OPTIONAL* - A memory card reader if your PSP is a bricked one

That basically it. If you have these things then you can downgrade your PSP from any Official firmware version or unbrick your ****ed PSP

This method of PSP hacking is called "Pandora's Battery" and we will be using the M33 CFW (Custom FirmWare) which will allow you to play ripped games, play custom EBOOT files and alot of other cool stuff.

Step 1: Making the Magic Memory Stick
The Magic Memory Stick just means a Memory stick duo pro that has been modified to act as a boot device. To do this you will need some files.

    Step 1
    Download this file
MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service
When the download has finished just unzip the contents to your hard drive.

    Step 2
OK Now that you have the files we can start making the Magic Memory Stick.
Open the folder and Find the folder called 'Read 1st'
In this folder there should be two other folders called 'mspformat' and 'msinst' Copy these two folders to the root of your hard drive (usually C Drive)

    Step 3
Now connect your PSP to your computer and activate USB mode (If your PSP is bricked use a card reader) Make a note of the PSP's drive number.
Now open cmd.exe (Start => Run => cmd) and type the following
CD C:\ (Or whatever drive you saved the two folder to.
    Now type:
mspformat\mspformat.exe X (X being your PSP drive number)
Press Y to confirm the action
If it then says "Drive succesfully formatted, and partition moved" then the process was a success! (no shit ^^)

    Step 4
*IF YOU ARE USING PSP USB THEN TURN OFF THE USB AND TAKE OUT THE CARD. THEN REPLACE THE CARD AND RESTART USB MODE*

Now go back to where you stored the downloaded folder. Now if you are using the old (Fat) PSP then open the 'Original Pandora' Folder. If you are using the slim open the 'Despertar v3' Folder.

Copy the contents of your chosen folder to the root of your PSP's memory card.

Now go back to your cmd.exe and type the following
    msinst\msinst.exe X msinst\msipl.bin (X being your PSP Drive)
Press Y if asked to confirm.

If it says "Write MS BOOT CODE" Then the operation was a success!

Now you have your Magic memory stick?! yay
    Half way there.

    Step 2: Modifying the Battery
OK So lets get down to business. The first step is to dismantle your lovely PSP battery. Why your wondering? Because the PSP battery has a motherboard built into it which tells your PSP how to boot up, we will be modifying this battery to tell the PSP to boot up in service mode.
Dont worry though this requires no soldering skill what so ever.

    Step 1
OK so get yourself a knife and crack open the PSP battery. This shouldnt be too hard, just neatly (yes neatly) cut along the seal and pull that mother in twain.
When your done you should have two halves of a case and a cool looking chip board.

    Step 2
OK now that you have access to your chipboard you can start Haxoring! For this all you need is a pin ^_^
First locate the chip with the S/N IC04 printed next to it, heres a piccy:

The highlighted bit (bottom right of the pic) is the pin we will be disconnecting.
To do this just get your pin (DO NOT TOUCH THE BATTERY TERMINALS) and pull off that pin. Try as hard as you can not to rip the pin from the chip, just the board (this isn't important though) If you are successful you should have something that looks like this:

Like i say if you rip off the pin completely its not the end of the world.

Step 3: Putting the two together
Now that you have a Magic Memory stick and a Modded battery its time to put the two together.
First put in the Magic memory stick and THEN the battery. Not the other way around. If your work was successful then you should see some black writing on the screen. Press X to downgrade / Unbrick the PSP.

When it's done loading you have finished! if you used the original pandora folder then your PSP should be version 1.50. If you used Despertar then you should be 3.71 M33-2

All done. Will be adding more to this guide later.

    Comments?

I saw something like this on qj

All I remember is that it was called Pandoras Battery or something

EDIT: Forgot to ask, will this render your battery useless after you've modded it?

Nope, if you dont snap the pin you can reuse it. I will include some crap about the multi bootloader soon.

Can the battery be charged? I tried it (damn that thing is ****ing small) and it flashed a little bit and it smelled...I thought I screwed it up, but the PSP still starts up (it's bricked one so it turns off after 10 secs). I don't think it worked, cuz the pin looks like before...I have no Idea how to destroy that little bitch :P

I will get myself a card reader, prepare the magical stick and then try...if that doesnt work I will try to destroy the pin completely XD

EDIT: I am starting to feel a bit dizzy......I think that smoke wasn't a good sign

EDIT 2: Oh and where are the Battery Terminals? I think I touched nearly everything while opening it XD
