    [Guide] Better FPS

    INTRO:
Hey, Auron here and now I'm releasing my FPS guide. I've read alot of fps-trheads and gather all the information how to actually get better fps.
Before we start, I would like to say it's not me who created all the programs I will link to. I'm not responsible for messing your computer up.

    ANTIVIRUS:
    Here's some good antivirus programs

    Avast
avast! antivirus software - computer virus, worm and Trojan protection by ALWIL Software

    NOD32
ESET NOD32 - Security Products and Solutions

    Norton Antivirus
    Norton Redirect - Symantec Corp.

    F-Secure
F-Secure.com > Antivirus and intrusion prevention solutions for home users and businesses

I used to run F-Secure with the "Office"-setting. If you run with "Home" you'll get a "Net_Sendpacket ERROR"-message in the game CS, don't know about WoW.
You'll find this under "Internetshield" if I don't remember to wrong, It's been a while.

    ANTISPYWARE:

    Ad-Aware
    Cleans up spywares
Check my thread for more info:

    http://www.mmowned.com/forums/genera...-ad-aware.html

    Ashampoo WinOptimizer Platinum
Cleans up / tweak in this program
Ashampoo® WinOptimizer Platinum 3 (3.30, 30.10.2006) - Gut ist uns nicht gut genug!

    Ccleaner
    Cleans cookies, register
Check my thread for more info:

    http://www.mmowned.com/forums/genera...-ccleaner.html

    WashAndGo
A very good program and it can cleane up ALOT.
    I recommend you clean up you're TEMP-map!

    Wash and Go - Download

    Registry Mechanic

    Cleans Register
    http://www.pctools.com/registry-mechanic/download

    Spybot - Search & Destroy
    Removes trojans etc
    The home of Spybot-S&D!

    FORMAT:
Format is nothing you HAVE to do, but it's very good!

If you decide to format, please save your drivers if you have 100fps with them or better! Trust me, it's worth, beacuse then you have the good drivers in your computer and don't need to download new ones.

THE NEWEST DRIVERS ISN'T ALWAYS THE BEST!!!

If you don't want to format you can always do two other things:
Error-Checking and Defragmentation. You do it this way:

    1. Open "My Computer", rightclick on the harddrive (C: ?) then Properties.
    2.
Choose the tab "Tools". Choose error-checking first.

    3. Click in the both choices you can, then start. The computer then wan't to reboot, press yes! If you haven't done this before, it usaly take some time.

When it's done it's time for defragmentation.
I recommend that you use PerfectDisk!

    Raxco Software - Products

When you've installed and clicked "Defragment", choose "Smart placement" and check the square down there and the program will automatic do it instead of the other.

    DRIVERS:
There is many many graphicCard-drivers out there. This a few I tried:

    OmegaDrivers
OmegaDrivers.net - Home of the ATI & NVIDIA Omega Drivers. Home
Choose "ATI/Radeon" / "NVIDIA GF" or whatever graphiccard you have. After that, choose your O/S. Then you can choose a ftp to download frome. I choose Guru3D's FTP.

For you who have those older GeForce-cards, like 5500 you should try those if not omegadrivers give you good fps
    WinXP/2k - (44.03)

Uninstall your current drivers, reboot, install the new drivers which you downloaded.

    OMEGA Only:
    Don't install "MultiRes", it's unnecessary.
    Choose "Performence" when it asks.
You should also click "Continue Anyway" when this window pop ups, it says something about that Microsoft haven't sign the drivers digital, but don't worry. I've used this for a long time ago.
    Reboot after install

    GRAPHICCARD SETTINGS:
    I go for 1024x768, 100Hz in Windows and 640x480, 120Hz in CS/WoW.

    Anisotropic filtrering: "Program Controlled"
    Systemperformance: "Quality"

Antropic filtering doesn't give/take any fps what I know.

    FASTER WINDOWS:
Note: This will give your windows a Windows 98-style. It faster but not as good looking as Windows XP.

    1. Rightclick "My Computer"
    2. Choose "Advanced", then "Settings" under Performance.
    3. Choose "Adjust for best Performance", then Apply.

    SERVICES.MSC:
This helps the FPS alot, even on dualcore.

    1. Choose "Start", then "Run..".
    2. Type in "services.msc" without "".
    3. Open the textdocument "Services" in the FPS Guide/Services.txt
    (download link: RapidShare: 1-Click Webhosting)

Now, just find the ones which is in the list, then you rightclick and choose "Properties".

    BIOS:
It's many things in BIOS that can improve your FPS. You'll have to find those by yourself, it's so different computer to computer.
This is some I found anyway:

Init Display First : AGP (If you have PCI you should change to that)
    PCI/VGA palette snoop : DISABLED
    Video BIOS shadowing : DISABLED
    Video BIOS cacheable : DISABLED
AGP aperture size : 128 (If there is any problem with 128, lower to 64)

    CLEAN YOUR COMPUTER:
I strongly recommend that you clean your fans etc. Be careful with static electricity! I recommend that you use a toothbrush to clean with. When I cleaned my processor, it went down 25*C first time. It was my old computer though.

    FINAL WORDS:
If you don't get 100 fps of this it's bad.
Please write what you think of my guide, and if it worked for you.
If you don't like it, tell me why you don't like it.
    Please report broken links too.

    Thanks for me!

Just to add, I think the best free anti virus program would have to be Avira Anti-Virus, it has been proven to be the best even amongst pay for programs.

    Should give it a try.

Tried that and it made my FPS even worse. How can I go back to defaults?
