GUIDE - Ascent 2.3.0 super fast, easy noobpack (files by pico and lord tom)

I want this perfectly clear, I wrote/coded/made NONE of the contents of this pack (just repacked it and wrote the guide). It's pieces of Pico's repack and lord tom's noobpack. Yes, this is actually ascent, and yes it is 2.3.0. This is NOT a 2.1.3 pack. The purpose of this pack is to make setting up your own private server as EASY and QUICK and PAINLESS as possible. The instructions are incredibly simple:

Download the noobpack:

1) Extract the pack. Extract "extract me..." to your wow directory and run ad.exe. When it's done, move /maps/ to your pico-noobpack folder.

2) Run "start mysql console" and "Ascent Restarter", and click all three start buttons.

3) Set your realmlist to 127.0.0.1 and run wow. Log in with username "test" and password "test".

All done.

COMMON PROBLEMS/QUESTIONS:

The mysql console closes as soon as I open it.
Solution: You installed mysql when following someone else's guide. You need to disable or uninstall it before running the included mysql server.

How do I disable a previous MySQL installation?
Answer: Press control+alt+delete and click task manager. Open the "Processes" tab and sort by "image name". Find the one that starts with "MySQL", click it, and click End Process.

Ad.exe isn't working/I can't extract my maps
Solution: Make sure ad.exe and the maps folder are in your Program Files/World of Warcraft/ folder (and NOT the /pico-noobpack/ folder). Ad.exe needs to access files from your wow/tbc install to extract the maps.

When I try to log in, I get stuck at the "Connected" dialog
Solution: Click cancel and wait a few seconds. Then select picoswowserver and click okay. Repeat until you successfully log in. This problem usually doesn't repeat itself past the first instance.

I can't extract the repack!
Solution: You need to download winrar. Once it's installed, right click the archive and click "Extract Here".

How do I edit the database?
Answer: Log in to localhost with username 'root' and password 'root' using your favorite SQL software. I prefer SQLyog:
MySQL GUI Tools, MySQL Monitor, MySQL Manager, MySQL Performance Tuning and Optimization

How do I create more accounts?
Answer: Run the following command sequence after logging in with the test account. Omit ".account flags..." for non-TBC and omit ".account level..." for non-GM.
.createaccount [username] [password] 1
.account flags [username] 8
.account level [username] az
.reloadaccounts

What are some gm commands?
Answer: some basic commands are '.modify level #" to level up, ".invincible" to make mobs ignore you, and ".modify gold #" to add money (sometimes more than 2,000,000,000(cp) will mess you up. Use ".modify gold -#" to remove money). See a full list at:

How do I change the server's name?
Answer: Open realms.conf in notepad and at the bottom, replace "picoswowserver" with "your desired name".

How do I make this server public?
Answer: This is a (comparatively) long process, and not for noobs. As such, I won't cover it here in this guide. If you're willing to give it a try anyway, try this thread:

How do I create weapons/armor/items/vendors/mobs?

Hi, thanks for the guide it seems to work well except one thing.

The database, where the accounts table is, is called "accounts" and not "ascentlogon", so when I run the restarter it doesn't work. Is there a way to fix this?

edit: neverwind, you just need to edit all the "ascentlogon" you find on the .conf files into "accounts"!

edit2: not working, i'm stuck at the end of the loading screen ;(

The configs included should be configured properly to run without any editing. the database is in fact called ascentlogon and the table is in fact accounts. Make sure you have all previous mysql services STOPPED before running the mysql batch starter. (ctrl-alt-del, task manager, processes, sort by name, find "MySQL..." and click end process, to be sure it's stopped).

I just did a new install of this pack and it all worked fine for me. Starting over from the top (only takes five minutes keeping the maps folder) should fix your problem.

I was wondering since you said this was a 2.1 pack. Does this include Zul'Aman and guild banks?
Also if it is the later version would i have to revert back from the current WoW?

This is NOT a 2.1 pack, I just stole lord tom's sql setup from his 2.1.3 pack. The actual server runs 2.3.0, and the databases are all 2.3.0. You can play this with the latest live patch.

smoy, I actually edited it because of your post, so thanks for pointing out the confusing part. =D And yes you can, just edit realms.conf. Replace all instances of 127.0.0.1 with your external ip, and forward the port on your router or firewall.

If this doesn't work it's because your ISP is blocking the service; you'll have to consult another guide for how to set up using hamachi or noip (ddinek can probably help you)
