100% Success Guarenteed - Get in top quality Raiding Guilds

    ### Iziena's Guide to getting in the top Guilds ###

So, You want the best, and only the best quality when it comes to raiding guilds, especially with Cataclysm on the horizon, But before you do this, there are several things you will need to consider, all of which will be stated in this guide.

    1. Your Character

The most important thing when it comes to getting in a top raiding guild is your character, chances are most guilds don't care how much of a nice person you are, they only care about what you've experienced and how you perform, But do not get miss-judged, Being a nice person will carry you a long way when playing in a top guild.

So, how do you know your character makes the cut? Well the expression "You get back, what you put in" very much comes to play in this scenario, the more effort you have put into your character, the more likely you are to be wanted in the guild, And yes, in most cases achievement points do matter, even if most people don't like to admit it, If you can verify you have seen top content on your character and can back it up with the achievements, then you are going to be wanted.

So, what happens if you don't have the best in slot gear, or top quality achievements? Well it's not over yet, Keep reading to find out how far the application itself can take you.

    2. The Application Process

Almost every serious guild WILL ask you for an application submitted on their website, 90% Of your chances of getting in the guild are based on the application, your armory is the other 10%, If you can write a cracking application, Almost as if you are selling yourself to the guild, then chances are they are going to be interested in you, even if your gear lacks moderatly.

Key points on writing an outstanding application:

    - Sound Enthusiastic, Afterall this is the guild YOU are applying too, they aren't applying to you.

    - Write in clear and understandable english (unless the guild are specifically from another location) Writing in clear english will go a long way, There is nothing worse then reading an application with somebody who uses short term words, e.g "I wanna join this guild coz i rly like doing top content kk"... It just looks and sounds so unproffesional.

    - Back yourself up, even as silly as it sounds, but in most cases it's a good idea to ask your CURRENT guild leader of the guild you are leaving to write you a short refferal, If you have any decent of current guild leader they will do it, no matter how much they don't want you to leave, chances are they will still be happy to write you a reccomendation.

    - Make sure your application includes EVERY POSSIBLE DETAIL, This may sound obvious, but you wouldn't believe how many applications i've seen that have actually missed out key and essential points from their characters, Include everything you've done that you're proud of that the game has to offer, Even if it sounds silly, for example if you've ran Baron Rivendare 200 times to get the mount, That will actually score you huge points with a guild, As it's nice to see somebody putting in such a huge effort to achieve something that means obviously alot to them.

    3. The After Contacts

In almost all cases, an application will not just be instantly accepted without an officer contacting you to have a quick chat, It's important you make a good impression when the officer is contacting you, Show alot of enthusiasm without sounding too cocky, This will play a huge role in you earning a trial period for that specific guild.

In some cases you will recieve comments on your application from either other members of the guild or an officer, It is important that you address all response, even if they are criticism, as it shows first of all that you are actively checking the site, and secondly it shows that you care about peoples feedback.

    4. The Trial Period

Possibly the most important time you will ever spend in any guild, as this is what determines whether you are worth keeping in the guild, or whether you aren't all you were cracked up to be from what your application stated.

Key stages to passing your trial:

    - BE COMPETITIVE, I know it sounds like it defeats the object of working as a team, but you MUST be competitive when it comes to DPS, or healing, as you need to show you are playing at the same level if not higher than everyone else, As a tank it's slightly different, you need to be extremely alert and be very good at holding your aggro.

    - Socialise, Talk with the other members, log onto vent every so often, BECOME ONE OF THE TEAM, this will go miles in passing your trial period, getting involved with the guild will help you out alot.

    - Be Willing, If somebody asks for help, just do it, whether they are an officer or a fellow trial, if you put in the effort towards others, it WILL be recognised.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you very much for reading my guide, If you follow these pieces of information this should seriously help you getting in a guild of high standards.

    THIS lol

As a guild leader I can say that I am amazed at how many people that want to get into the guild put in terrible apps and think that they can get in by gear alone... I agree with OP with a slight change -- 75% of their chance of getting in is a solid app, 10% for gear/achievements, and 15% for the in-game contact conversation.

Again, sometimes I am amazed with the attitude people have. I remember a guy saying to me when I contacted him in game, "Dude, it should NOT be this hard to get into a guild." And I was like, well, for our guild it is. And he said, "Well I think it's dumb, did you see my gear?" -- To which I said, "Sry but I don't think you will fit in with our guild community." Many people are dumb lol

Thanks for the responses lads, My guides are aimed at people who don't really know what their doing, i mean i have some friends who are as intelligent as ever, but when it comes to writing an application they can't find their way from A to B. This is simply designed to highlight the key points on what will give you a better chance on getting your application and trial period nailed.

once again, Cheers for the responses.

Nice guide mate, as a guild leader myself I can't tell you how many pathetically ridiculous or clueless applications I get from time to time.

or you just send in a copy of your unemployment certificate, a student card or another way to prove that you have enough time to play...

never mention that you have a girl-/boyfriend or a family... that will disqualify you immediately

I think the 90% application and 10% gear isn't completely right. I'd put it more of a 45/45/10% for gear, application, and convo. If we're having a convo with you you're good enough on the app, references, gear to get a trial, so the rest is easy. Unless you would rather run arena than talk about your app.

First thing I do when considering an app is pull up the armory and look at the gear. Is the gear crap? Is the gear gemmed wrong? Does the gear have the correct enchants or doesn't have enchants? Are you way over or way under the hit cap? What's your spec? Are your glyphs condusive to your spec? (example, pre 4.0.1, Why would you app to a raiding guild as a BM hunter when survival was better, and marks was better than both?)

If any of those are the case it looks like the person that is putting up the application doesn't show effort, therefore it doesn't matter how good the application itself looks. ToC gear is not good enough for a guild that's clearing ICC on heroic. Period. I guarantee if they wanted another one of your class one of the main raiders has one that's already in better gear, so they can use that and take in a raider from the bench. They may not be better skilled than you, but half 277 ICC geared alts will generally out-do your 245 gear easily even just mashing buttons.

After gear I look at tradeskills. Do you have raiding tradeskills or farming tradeskills? Raiding tradeskills do not include skinning, minning, or herbalism, unless you're a tank and have BS minning. Good tradeskills would be,, JC, BS, Enchanting, LW, Scribe, Tailor, (Alchemy isnt great, but still acceptable).

Next, I look at the application. I dont even read it at first. I look to see that it's completed, if you didn't complete it you're not putting forward the effort to belong to a high end raiding guild. Obviously I read the important stuff, references, previous raiding experience (I also check your acheives to see if you actually completed said encounters), internet speed test results, ect. The question that asks "why would you like to be part of that guild" and other questions of that nature dont really matter, you're apping cause you want to be part of a premier raiding guild.

If you make the cut and get in as an App, don't join pugs to get your badges (justice/valor points for the week) if you dont get into the main raid. I love when apps raid during the weekend and get saved, then we come back monday to finish a progression and they can't raid cause they are saved. You might not get into the raid sometimes, but you should still be online and ready to go if we need you. Most raiding guilds wont like an app who doesn't get a spot on tuesday when we first start clearing a raid which then logs off an hour in since they didn't get in.

DONT SAY YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO IF YOU DONT. It's great when an app says they know the fight and fail on the most mundane part of it multiple times because they actually dont know the encounter (avoiding the frost bomb on Sind is a great one), and it's even more easy to spot when they get the acheive after the kill even if they didn't mess up that bad. We used to sell LK kills to other guilds so they could open up the easy heroic encounters... We literally just had them suicide themselves phase 1 because we didn't want to have to deal with people not knowing what they were doing and wipe us. Pay us for the kill, go die, watch if you want, get your kill. We'd go with 24 people and leave 1 spot open if an app was wiping us cause they couldn't do the mechanics because we were already doing that for guild bank funds.

Getting an RL job is definitely not 90% app and 10% resume, I'd go 20/40/40. 20% app, 40% qualifications/resume/references, and 40% interview. When looking at applications for position openings I immediately look at qualifications first, then read the rest of your application. If you dont meet the qualifications, you're not going to be worth my time. Congrats, your application looks pretty, but why are you applying for a position that you don't have the required schooling, liscense, training, or skillset for? Beleive me, I've tossed plenty of good looking applications because they didn't meet the qualifications for applications that didn't look as good. I work in medicine,,, do you want a nurse to opperate on your knee? Or, would you rather have an orthopiedic surgeon who's went through the schooling, testing, liscensing, and residency for that?
