This achievements going to be time consuming, so don't try to do it all in one night, atleast the hard stuff.
The easiest way to start off is with your factions vender items.

Buy the three moths for 50s each

DWARF
Vendor: Donni Anthania
Location: Elwynn Forrest
Buy the cats she has for 50s each, while in the area go to SW and look for Lil Timmy and buy the White Kitten.

DWARF/GNOME

Vendor: Yarlyn Amberstill
Location: Dun Morogh
Buy her one rabbit for 50s.


NIGHT ELF

Vendor: Shylenai
Location: Darnassus
Buy her two owls for 50s. Chump change.

Horde Version

ORC/TROLL

Location: Orgrimmar
Buy all three of his snakes, 50s.

UNDEAD
Vendor: Jeremiah Payson
Location: Underneath the UC bank.


BLOODELF

Grab the Prarie Dog from Halpa in Thunderbluff






You're off to a good start so far. From here go buy the easy pets, this includes the ones sold from Breanni and Dealer Rashaad.

If your horde your total pet count should be 18 unless you have previous pets. Buy the alliance pets via auction house and neutral auction houses. Buy all the easy pets and you should be up to 27, not a bad start. Head over to Booty Bay now. Find Narkk and buy his parrots, you should be up to 29. Buy the Ghostly skull in Dalaran in the Sewers and you're at thirty. Go to Thousand Needles and grab the Ancona Chicken from Magus Tirth.

Find your auction house and buy the following

Mechanical Squirrel Box
Tranquil Mechanical Yeti
Lifelike Mechanical Toad
Lil' Smoky
Pet Bombling

Alternatively, have them crafted, much cheaper.

You'll have 35 now. Do the following quests,

Becoming a Parent-Feralas, Alliance only. This can now be farmed from Sprite Darters.
Farm Chicken Egg - Object - World of Warcraft
Miniwing Terokkar Forest

Do these next two in conjunction.

Smolderweb Carrier Blackrock Spire
Worg Carrier Blackrock Spire

If you're not a fisher, become one. Theres six pets you can get from it.

Chuck's Bucket
Muckbreath's Bucket
Snarly's Bucket
Toothy's Bucket
Then Pinchy, who I will warn you now, aswell as the Sewer Rat are complete Bastards.

As of now, you should have 44 if you're Allinace, 42 if you're Horde.

Farm Skyguard reputation and buy Nether Ray Fry
Form Sporeggar rep and buy the Tiny Sporebat
Do Kalu'ak dalies and buy Nurtured Penguin Egg
47 and 45 now!

Now then, things get tough. Farm out or buy all the whelps, this includes the Azure Whelpling, the Dark Whelpling, The Tiny Emerald Whelpling
, the Tiny Crimson Whelpling, and last but not least, the Proto-Drake Whelpling.

Buy or wait awhile for the other pets from Oracle Eggs, this includes Cobra Hatchling, Tickbird Hatchling, and White Tickbird Hatchling

By now Alliance should have 53 pets and horde 51 and both factions should have Reeking Pet Carrier from Shop Smart, Shop Pet...Smart


Sadly, there aren't anymore easily farmable pets. Hopefully you have pets from the orphan week holidays and such, but doing that and other events are the way to go for more pets. Good luck!

Unfortunately this is just a copy and past from a WoWHead comment (Lil' Game Hunter - Achievement - World of Warcraft - about 5 comments down) If you are that commenter then fair enough.

While I recognize that you are contributing and I don't want to discourage you, I rather just want to say you need to put more effort in to the guide if you want to get mine and possibly others' reputation.

1) Add color
2) Add links (the original comment has links already for you, all you need to do is copy and paste)
3) If you are not the original Author of the WoWhead comment, you may want to state that you aren't in your guide. Although MMOwned DOES allow players to copy and paste guides from other websites without a citation / reference, saying that it is not your guide upfront will not only make people respect that you actually did tell them that it was not yours and they may rep you for your selflessness and the guide. It's your choice though.

I'm not trying to hi-jack the thread now but I'm going to link one of my guides which I think you could learn a lot from.

1) I made a picture just for the guide
2) I used good color, headings, different text size, bold, underline and other good formatting techniques
3) I made a video guide to show players the locations of all the NPCs that they can buy the items (in your case pets) from.
4) I created a text guide if players didn't want to watch the video, and also included links of ALL the NPC's and ALL the items bought.
- An example of how effective good techniques like that can be; I believe that thread I linked is reputation locked, as in players can't rep me anymore in that thread because I reached the maximum amount of rep able to receive per thread.

I did cite the person who I took that list from, but I think when I fixed it up after accidentally posting, the citation dissapeared.
Currently fixing this up too.

Edit: Ok, added color, fixed links, added the citation, gave my little step by step guide to get 50 pets for each faction. I'm afraid to add pictures because of how clustered it would be.

Just a little note, Sprite Darter isn't Alliance only anymore, since it now drops from them in Feralas. Usually averages on 10-20 kills.

Also, the two engineering pets (pet bombling and lil' smokey iirc) is avalible to both gobling and gnomish engineers and they arent BoP anymore.
