Hello everyone,
Well I just came across something I thought was interesting.
Using the copycat scam from
http://www.mmowned.com/forums/wow-sc...ycat-scam.html
i was able to get most of one persons account information, and they sent me an email back along the lines of:
Name:J***** C****
Address: 5** s**** r*****
Phone: 503 ******* home phone work phone 503 *******
USA
a*******@******.net
CD key: ************
acct: *******
pw: its confidentail because blizzard said NO BLIZZARD EMPLOYEES
will ask for your PASSWORD. sorry if this is a scam your not
getting my PW.
dont know the secret question or answer
Now, when i saw this i LOL'd. First, because you don't give someone all your personal information, then not give your password, thats dumb. So i called up blizzard, waited in the 20 minute que, then got on the line with an operator.
They usually ask what number your calling from, i called from a blocked number, and said i was calling from the "home phone"(only because this person emailed me saying they were at work, and i knew that if blizz did call them for some reason, no one should be there). Gave them the name given to me, account name to look it up.
They asked what i needed, i said "I dont have access to my old email address, and ive lost my password. So i can't login, and i can't reset my password."
They said OK, we need your SQA. i replied "i dont know, i didnt think i would need it so i just filled in something random."
They moved on to email address, name, account name which i verified. They asked for the CD-Keys, gave them to him. Lastly, i said, "if it would help at all, i have the address" which they said "yes" to. I gave it to them, and he suddenly told me,
"You have given us enough of the information on this account, so we can tell you the answer that you gave us to your secret question."
I was happy, but then my phone died. OH NOES! luckily, they emailed my new email after(and new password!) with the SQA!
Sorry if this seems rushed, i have to leave for work soon XD
I also forgot to add some stuff...
I had the similar situation somewhat, but i didnt have the cd-key info. So i called blizzard, they did the asking for name, phone number, email, etc. Didnt have SQA either. So when i asked to change the email, they replied "Ok, whats your sqa?" i gave them the same answer as above. "Thats fine, you have the CD keys?" "*deep sigh*, god, i have no idea... i dont even have a clue where the boxes are, i think they are in the attic somewhere...But i do have the address registered to the account, if that would help." Which also worked perfectly
