    Let's Talk Towers of Doom

    Heroes of the Storm is on a roll when it comes to adding crazy new ideas to their game. First Cho'gall and now Towers of Doom. This new map, which was released last Tuesday, has quickly become a lot of peoples favorite simply because of how different it is from any other MOBA map. Everything you thought was standard practice in a map is now flipped upside down. The battle of Raven Lord vs Gravekeeper in the Towers of Doom might be one of the most bizarre but exhilarating maps yet. As always let's unpack this together.



    The Basics
    This map starts out standard with three towers, one in each of your three lanes. These towers are not your regular old towers though. Instead of the fortress and towers being permanently destroyed you instead take over your enemies tower after you destroy it. (Kind of like Dominion in League of Legends) Capturing your enemies towers serves a massive advantage because you cannot attack your enemies core. On top of that you cannot even enter your enemies base. You heard that right. Your enemies base is completely walled off with what we will call "Steroid Cannons". These Steroid Cannons basically form a zone of death around your enemies base making sure nobody gets in. So if you cannot attack your enemies yourself how do you win? Altars.



    The Main Objective
    Periodically altars will spawn in four potential locations. Sometimes only one altar will spawn other times multiple. Capturing the altar causes each tower you control at the time of capture (including your core) to shoot a beam of damage at your enemies core. Each beam does 1 damage and each core has 40 health. This is why taking over your enemies towers is so crucial. You want your altar captures to inflict as much damage as possible. Keep in mind if an enemy takes over your tower that you can take it back by destroying it. This game of destroying and taking over each others towers goes back and forth all game long. If you happen to take over all six towers on the map your core will steadily shoot a beam of damage at your enemies core until they take one of their towers back or lose. There is definitely no handicap on this map. Stomping your enemies can lead to very fast wins.

    But wait there's more!
    This map's mercenary camps have a fun twist. The normal camps have three pumpkin headed Sappers which deal AOE damage to enemy minions in lane. These Sappers really strive when you can escort them to your enemies tower because they will then begin to charge and suicide on top of it dealing massive damage to the tower but also anything around it. If your team happens to already control all of the towers on the map the Sappers will then sacrifice themselves to the Steroid Cannons which upon death launches their pumpkin heads at your enemies core dealing one damage each. The boss featured in this map is the Headless Horseman from World of Warcraft's Hallow's End event. When defeated his cellar door will open launching four projectiles at your enemies core also dealing one damage each.


    Lastly, there is also a new transportation feature on this map. A teleportation tunnel. This feature arrives around 12 minutes into the game. The entrance is near your core in each base but the exit is shared in the middle of the map. This tunnel is a one way ride. You cannot go from the middle of the map back to your base. The tunnel leads to some clutch moments when you just re-spawn and need to arrive at an objective or team fight right away.



    The Towers of Doom battleground brings hectic new gameplay which will bring new players in and keep old players stuck in their chairs. Killing an enemies core purely with objectives is a concept that creates an environment where you absolutely have to play as a team. Plus this looks like the closest we'll get to a Culling of Stratholme.

    A very good map, i hope we gonna have a special map for christmas too.
    (Imo, the map with the 2 angels is the worst map ever created, it should be removed from the game)

    A Christmas or Holiday season themed map would be epic! I remember Summoners Rift in League of Legends used to have a snow version until Riot got lazy and stopped updating it along with the new map. As far as the 2 angels map goes I can see that map being a strong love or hate map. Last I remember the strategy was to ignore the first time they spawned and just shove a lane while the enemies waste time getting it because it was so weak the first time anyway. But it's been awhile so IDK if that's viable anymore
