Yes, it does seem overly hard to get stuff. The most expensive item costslike 75,000 points, you'd need to have thousands of posts to be ablte to have that...

yah but for referrals.. you get an insta-50 points.. and I'm doin admin-donate for great posts.. you guys can donate points to eachother when you like another persons post to.. I don't want everyone to have a glowing shadow'd username and access to the elite members usergroup.. which is only 10k points.. so if you contribute a lot.. then it isn't really that hard to get..
