Glider structure change - open source.
I do have some pretty big news aside from the legal action. We've had a lot of success with some incredibly sharp developers helping out in the new, more open model of Glider. After a lot of thought, we've decided to take it a step further now to really get the community going, so it's official:

Glider is going open-source!

If you're a developer and you want to go straight to tinkering with the source, scroll down to the bottom of this post. Otherwise, we'll answer the basic stuff here in the same FAQ-style format that I always wind up using.

What if I am already an existing Glider customer?
Just because it's open-source, doesn't mean it's free! While anyone can compile it and modify it, we'll continue to charge for a key here. Buying a key will get you access to the forums, our official offset server, and technical support from the MDY Industries team.

Will Elite still be for sale?
No. Given the volume of Glider keys we expect to sell, we don't really need it. Besides, since the source is open, there's not much we can do to keep anyone from simply editing themselves to Elite.

What about existing Elite customers?
Existing Elite customers will retain their special forum title.

What about the server-side pieces? Database?
We will be putting the schema for the server-side components of Glider into source control, but the data will obviously not be there. So it'll be fairly trivial to set up your own offset server and Tripwire definitions.

Under what license is the software distributed?
We're going with GPLv3.

The link above will work for HTTP-based SVN as well as regular browsers (it checks user-agent), so you can just pop in and grab the source there. I'm sure there will be mirrors, but we ask that you keep edits here so that we don't end up with a ton of forks in different places.

The easiest way to prove it is a joke, is simply to remove the /svn. Now suddenly the site comes up. If the site were really overloaded, then the site wouldn't work without the /svn. Thats just an index file.
