[Request] Packet Sniffer

What programs have people been using to sniff the packets from the client? From what i've heard quite alot of things are client-sided (really dumb) and would like to try some stuff myself to see what i can figure out. But i don't know any sniffers that could be adequate.

Linking me to wikipedia doesn't exactly help nor does it answer any of the questions i was asking. :S the devs would have access to that same information (and would to any other public forum/post/thread with a sniffer that works) but im looking for one that has been confirmed to actually work instead of me spending hours or days downloading and trying all sorts of different sniffers and possibly getting detected for each if not all the ones i try.
